Re: IRN/mustache parakeet....?!
He does look like a hybrid. Don't know anything about mustached parakeets so can't help. Regarding his legs, hes looks like he has a slight case of splayed legs. When they are chicks in the nest , a lack of nesting material/concave nest bottom can result in the parents/siblings sitting on the younge...

Re: Our Second Feather Baby! Not yet named
If the mother of the chick wasn't a lutino ( or albino ) , then the owner is quite right in saying the chick is a female .
Congratulations on the baby ! She is adorable

Re: Hello Everyone - I'm a novice owner
Seeds are alright but a diet with pellets and fresh food is better for your birds. Ringnecks are wonderful eaters and will try just about anything you give them. Start introducing them to fruits like apples, pears, melon , papaya , banana or nuts like Cashew or almonds. My ringneck is so food motiva...

Re: Hello Everyone - I'm a novice owner
Hello, I stay in the UAE as well and I know all about the pet markets here. They will do anything to make a sale even if it involves sick birds. Most of the birds they call 'tame' have been heavily abused and beaten into submission . They sometimes even drug the birds to make them seem docile and un...

Re: Should I get my female a friend
She does have a nasty streak and she can be quite moody at times, but only to others (not to me, thank goodness). Just from the couple of replies I've received, though, I've decided to leave well enough alone. She will bring someone home if she feels the need. I think you're right about her possibl...

Re: Should I get my female a friend
I live in Dubai too and it is quite amazing that you've managed to build such a bond with a wild bird ! Since she is wild , I'm quite sure she is capable of finding herself a mate. IRN females tend to be nasty overall and it could turn ugly if she decides she doesn't like her new friend. Most parrot...

Re: What mutation is this....?
I had a sky blue pallid showing exactly the same markings . After two months with me , she moulted out those markings . In my case it was due her not having an appropriate diet with her previous owners. You should get your bird tested for diseases or nutritional deficiency.

They're quite abundant here in Dubai . It always amazes me to see them thriving even during these summer months when the temperature can go above 50 degrees. We also have quite a few Alexandrine's .

Re: change in baby's behaviour
thank you for the responses :) The bird now named 'Mojo' has improved since then. He/she does come up to me and sit on my foot or shoulder once in a while but still doesn't tolerate hands . I guess this is the usual independent behavior ringnecks are known for . I guess the sudden change from the at...

change in baby's behaviour
Hi everyone I have a baby ringneck of about 3 months of age . I hand raised him/her since he/she was a month old. The baby was completely tame and friendly behaving just as you would expect a handraised bird to. Since the last 10 days , its personality has completely changed . Its started running aw...

Re: can IRN and cockatiels live together?
I'm currently handraising a ringneck baby whose around 50 days old . He/she has already began showing aggression to my other birds(tiels, budgies and lovebirds). I got one of my tiels indoors to try and socialize the ringneck with it but the baby actually flew and tried to attack the tiel. The baby ...

Re: Weaning issues
Well I've been trying out more foods with him and the only thing he will eat is cold mashed Mango. I've decided to not worry that much about the weight ; I'll just feed him whenever he seems hungry and leave some additional food inside his cage. The budgies are off and away almost always around the ...

Weaning issues
Hi folks :) My baby IRN is about 40 days old . He hasn't been eating properly for the last 2 days . He doesn't have beyond a spoonful or 2 of formula except for the night meal . I had been feeding him thrice a day until then . The issue is that he hasn't begun eating other foods either. He takes a f...

Re: can IRN and cockatiels live together?
I don't think its a good idea . IRNs are MUCH more aggressive than tiels . You could let them all out together supervised but don't try housing them together . Even if they seem to get along generally ,the IRNs are perfectly capable of killing tiels if they're in a bad mood .

Re: A Thread For Budgie Fans
It can get so loud between the two of them, you would think I had twenty budgies (that would be awesome, btw). Hahaha well I have 20 budgies and trust me , they're LOUD. I have a peachfaced lovebird who also sounds exactly like budgie albeit 3 times louder :P . Throw in 2 cockatiels and an IRN scre...

Re: Mutation of my bird ?
Well I finally got the results from her tests a few days back and it seems shes disease-free :D . The vet said that shes in good health apart from the poor feather condition due to the lack of a good diet and general hygiene by the previous owners . I also think shes going through a moult atm , as s...

Re: Help I do not understand
I had 2 wild-type green females for around 6 years . They were extremely bonded and displayed similar behaviour as to what you mentioned in your earlier posts . The funny thing was that the females would always switch as to who would be on 'top' every season .

Re: A Thread For Budgie Fans
@ MissK : 6 budgies have nothing on 2 IRNs having a screaming match :P . Yeah , but while IRNs only screech a few times , the budgies keep chirping away all day . So at the end of the day , its about even I'd say . @ Skyes Crew : I've always wanted an Alexandrine . I just passed up on taking a baby ...

Re: A Thread For Budgie Fans
Hello everyone , I finally managed to get my eyes on the budgie thread :D I'm Vinay and I own 20 budgies . I'm kind of a novice hobby breeder having bred 3 clutches (11 babies in total ) this year . I don't intend to breed again , I just did it to see how it is and get some experience . I really lov...

Re: Mutation of my bird ?
Thank you for the response everyone . I have scheduled an appointment with my vet to run the PBFD tests . I decided its not worth taking the risk and just want to make sure the bird is in good health . The patchy markings seem to be confined only to the bird's wings and back. I don't see the marking...

Re: Mutation of my bird ?
I understand the concern , but the bird's previous owner did get it checked out a couple of weeks earlier . He even showed me the papers from the vet's . I was worried it could be sick too . Behaviour wise, it seems perfectly healthy . I'll still go to the vet to make sure :) . I hope nothing is wro...

Re: Mutation of my bird ?
Thank with the pictures Shey .
You guys mentioned its some kind of pallid . What does the mutation do to the colour of the bird ?
What is its mode of inheritance?
It would be helpful if someone could post a picture of a similar bird to compare .

Mutation of my bird ?
Hello everyone :) I just joined this forum yesterday . I bought my ringneck parakeet a few days back. I've never seen a ringneck like it before . The city where I live in (Dubai) mostly sells only the normal wild-type green which are usually wild-caught and imported from India/pakistan. Occasionally...

Hi everyone :)
Hello people I'm Vinay from Dubai , United Arab Emirates . I just bought a young ringneck parakeet today . The bird isn't completely tame but its friendly enough to take treats from me . I've owned ringnecks in past so I'm kind of familiar with their behaviour and mannerisms . I thought i could lear...
