Re: Should he be weened by now?
I normally use the passwell formula, just half a tea spoon or so to make the formula more of a porridge consistency. Don't use seeds that require them to crack them open as if they swallow them whole it may do some damage, i normally use the passwell crumbles as they soften up in the formula and the...

Re: Should he be weened by now?
Did you try mixing some seed or crumbles in with the formula? I find it helps them get used to having to work a little harder for their food and they get a taste for them also.
You could also try one of the 'avian delight' bird treat hangers in the cage.

Its amazing how the blue in the center of the tail shows up heaps more in a photo than to the naked eye.

Just an update for anyone who was interested, i have managed to re-habilitate the bird back to at this stage 95% of what he was like before. Have you actually costed out the materials that they are made with. (ie coated steel welded corners, made to come apart if you ever move, colourbond steel). I am in the process of making a new aviary also but the saving is only about $1-200 dollars off a pre-made one (i am building a double hex avia...

I have been doing that so far so will keep it up and hope he recovers, on a positive note he is taking the formula at night again now willingly, still no interest in any veg and fruit or crumbles though.

Rehabilitating a Ringneck after a Stroke?
Hi all, Seeking any advice in regards to the chances and the whether it is possible to rehabilitate a ringneck after it has had a stroke. Yep, keep the windows inside covered when you have your 2 others out now as you don't want any broken wings or necks from their first flight, my 2 took off for the first time today and both crashed straight into a glass door (almost had a heart attach - thankfully both were fine!) Small steps is correct - i managed to tame a 2-3 year old female a few years back but it was a lot of hard work - i found that clipping its wings helped (when i got to the stage of it feeding out of my hand as it then couldn't fly away while stepping up). However it was never as tame as one's that i...

Looks like a good idea for birds kept inside - should contain some of the water that they like to flick around, although i don't reckon my birds would get into it as they seem to like jumping in and dunking their whole bodies!!
