Re: Brushing up on genetics, picking a mate

Babies. Babies/ Babies, babies babies....

DId I mention Babies....? It's springtime and my maternal urges are sending me on thoughts of committing to months of fuss of BABIES! Ones I don't have to give birth to.

We need to catch up Miss K :)

Re: Brushing up on genetics, picking a mate

Ah, I see. So a better way to get a violet turquoise pallid would to have a turquoise pallid male (or at least split to pallid) and a violet pallid female?

I imagine a violet pallid female is a less likely bird for me to get my hands on.

I know you guys get a lot of stupid questions in this section---I've read a lot in this section over the years to try to understand, but I have no first hand experience.... I have a sf violet male. I was thinking about trying to find him a mate in a year or so. (or more). I like the "rainbow&qu...

I was guessing a Turquoise cinnamon? But I'm not so good at guessing. She was looking for an example of an adult as hers is still a baby. She was asking because the splotchy green started to some through.

I'm frequently taking balls and blocks out of the water dish. Sometimes I come home and the water is green or purple but there's noting in the dish that would make it that way. I assume he's dipping his chewed popsicle sticks in there to turn it colors.

Not to get too serious--but my best advice for someone bringing home a baby is to remember to patiently train the things you want the bird to do. We all end up training the things we don't want our birds to do unconsciously. If the bird starts doing something you don't want it to habitually, think a...

Well, the thing on my mind is whether this budgie has damaged follicles. Not that I know anything about it, but if he was in a cage with many other budgies at, say, Petsmart, this could be the budgie that got picked on. Maybe tail pulled out by other birds... Maybe damage has been done. Theorizing.

In Eclectus parrots, incorrectly colored feathers are a sign of a dietary issue. I'm not saying that's what you have here, but I have this dietary issue with my eclectus parrots.
