Re: Question on chick sizes

thank you for the reassurance. They were definately a day apart. The are now 21g, 35g, and a burley 95gms. At least the larger one gives the small ones the additional body warmth they need. The 35g one has now opened its eyes as well

Re: Novice handrearing can be successful and very rewarding

An update on how Entree is doing... At about 1 yr of age Entree developed a very slight click every now and then as he breathed, and his air sack on one side was over filling sometimes. He was also less cheery and more bitey"..... So off to the local VET who gave Antibiotics and recommended we ...

Question on chick sizes

I have posted on the Moustache Parrot forum but as the recent posts are not all that recent I thought I would pose the same question here seeing as the moustache parrot is so similar to the ringneck. Basically, one chick appears to be much larger than the others and Im wondering how normal this is. ...

moustache parrot chick - is the size abnormal or not ?

WP_20141127_002.jpg I have recently have a clutch of 3 moustache babies born 13th, 14th and 15th November. So the oldest is 2 weeks old today. I removed them two days ago from their mum after a heat wave with two days of over 40 degrees celcsius. Their crops were compacted with whole seeds and no f...

Re: Albino Cock x Lutino Hen resulted in 4 lutinos and 1 alb

Thank you for confirming that Sheyd. Now I need to decide if eventually I want to possibly encourage the visual blue in the future. Though I do believe in letting them choose what ever partner they want rather than trying to force a bond.

Albino Cock x Lutino Hen resulted in 4 lutinos and 1 albino

Albino cock x lutino hen = 4 lutino chick and 1 albino chick Wondering if anyone can explain the possible genetics of these parents as I couldnt get a result with these colours in the genetics calculator ( but then I am a total novice at it). The previous clutch from the same parents gave all lutino...

Re: Novice handrearing can be successful and very rewarding

As I said in my story, I am not an expert in anyway. I actually think I was just lucky. If I was to ever to have the problem again I would still try all I could which would probably include similar to Entree. I would try to pry a small arch in the lower edge of the beak on the birds left hand side (...

Re: Pionus beak on blue ringneck? Malabar dad or ARN gone wr

Hi Skyes_crew..... The other bird is a Princess parrot, only young and was not in the aviary at the time. The only birds in the aviary were ringnecks. The blue IRN male was mating with both a Blue IRN that I have as well as the yellow IRN female. The blue IRN female laid eggs that were not fertile. ...

Re: Pionus beak on blue ringneck? Malabar dad or ARN gone wr

Hi Madas.. Entree definately has the yellow as his mum and the blue ringneck as his dad. There was absolutely no other mating activity.. maybe the others are still too young. Recio.. I dont know much about iridescent feathers. Entree.. and his dad... have wings that appear to look darker and slightl...

Re: New member from NSW Australia

No.... not at all. Entree has a beak that extends out slightly further out from the bottom beak. The top beak Is mostly dark grey and narrow through the centre ridge of the length and then has wider flat part on either side level with his eyes. These areas have a tinge of colour to them ( Id describ...

Pionus beak on blue ringneck? Malabar dad or ARN gone wrong

I have hand raised a baby, called Entree, from a couple of days old. Mum is a yellow IRN and dad is a blue IRN. Both are beautiful large birds with yellow around their eyes and the top beak is red and the bottom beak is black. Dad has the ring mum doesnt. To me they look like normal Indian ringnecks...

Novice handrearing can be successful and very rewarding

A bit of history ... Im a novice at raising a bird and want to pass what I have gone through onto others. I am not a bird breeder. I have some “rescued” birds and when I was given some nesting boxes, I placed them in the aviaries. The birds then did what birds do and next thing there were eggs then ...

Re: IRN or ARN?

Hi.. I was pleased to find a forum that discussed the difference in beak colour between IRNs and ARNs. I have a 6 mth old blue ringneck of small stature (120gm) with a dark beak while both parents are larger birds with the orange/red beak of the Indian Ringneck. Is it possible that two apparent “Ind...

New member from NSW Australia

Hi everyone, I discovered this forum when trying to research a bit about our indian ringnecks. Im not a breeder as such, rather a lover of birds. Over time I have acquired birds by being given unwanted pets, buying them from pet shelters or catching pets that have escaped and not being able to find ...
