I have no idea what an emerald would look like. I am still really new to colors and stuff. She is very shiny in real life as well as in the pictures. Parents were violet and blue [not sure if either of them were special in any way though]

I can't figure it out on the calculator --- a friend of mine asked me if the result would be and I can't figure it out to save my life.

What's Wrong With Apollo's Beak???

Can anyone tell me what's going on with Apollo's beak? It looks like it's cracked and peeling or flaking. He seems healthy otherwise, but I don't know if this is normal or not. He has stuff to file his beak on in his cage and lots of toys. Any suggestions?

Oh wow Sheyd! That's gorgeous! I was under the impression that the green only covered the tips of feet head and wings. Hopefully Apollo is that pretty when he feathers out!

What's wrong with my ringneck?

He's supposed to be a turquoise grey, so I expected and have seen some green around his forehead, feet and wings. I noticed a few days ago that he seems to be getting greener in places that I hadn't expected. Is this normal? He's healthy and well fed etc...I'm just confused because I don't know what...

I put Apollo [turquoise grey] and Boomer [Blue] in the genetic calculator and it comes up 50% turquoise grey and 50% turquoise. It said there wouldn't be any blue babies from the match. Well, that sucks. I paid a lot of money for her because the breeder claimed that she was split to violet. I guess I should have done some more research before I paid....

Hopefully you can see it better in the second picture, when she has her wing stretched out that it is actually dark dark dark blue, not black on the insides of the flight feathers....it looks black sometimes because of my crap camera, but it's actually dark blue.

If it's not genetic or illness, it's got to be humidity. If the humidity isn't high enough, the chicks can't pip and hatch because the inner membrane dries out and shrinks [commonly referred to as shrink wrapped] That would be my guess. They pipped but the humidity wasn't high enough for them to zip...
