HELP HELP is there a second bluffing stage

I need some help with Birdley. Birdley is 20 months old and we have had (her?) since she was 8 weeks old. She was handraised and we were warned to expect bluffing. All good, I took all the good advise onboard and rode it out calmly and after about 2 months it was gone. I am completely baffled now wh...

Re: Oh my dog!

Hi Jen & Bug, I have a Bull Arab (if you are not familiar, they are big pig hunting dogs), Mojo is 38Kgs, and 18 months old. When Mojo was almost a year old we got an IRN, handfed, cute little fellow we call Birdley and guess what.... By treating both like part of our pack with respect and outmo...

Re: Exorcist Bird ! Bluffing??

Hi there, Yes, this sounds like bluffing to me big time. My Birdley is 8 months old now, even though he bluffed quite a while ago, say about 3 months ago (how quickly we forget), it certainly is very similar behaviour. They become nasty, little things, and when you are just about to give up, they be...

Re: New Addition to the Family__ need help with a name

Hi David, I am sure a suitable name will come to you. Normally when you look at them it springs in to your mind. I am sorry you lost your bird. I lost Birdly when I only had him 1 week, by a stroke of fortune, he was fine and Birdly came home again. Good luck with your new bird, and yes, they dont g...

Re: Scared/angry IRN

Hi Ricco, yes, you scared him unintentionally. It is just to start a little bit from the beginning again. Birds are all about security and trust, if you lack either or both you will not be able to train, play or feed from your hands. You simply has to build up the trust again and Ricco will come alo...

Re: Normal morning behaviour.....?

Birdly goes to his cage at 7:30ish at night when I cover him up and tell him good night. Birds normally need about 12 hours sleep. We have Birdly's cage in the living room so we are still up for a while, doesnt matter. Cover them up and they snuggle up. The morning behaviour is just happy birds waki...

Re: When will the "bluff" ever end?

Hi Leo, I forgot to say. Never, ever just leave the bird in the cage and ignore it. Try to ignore bites as much as possible, push the finger in to the bite instead of snapping your hand away, I know.... it really hurts, but it works. That way they understand that they get nowhere with biting. Birdly...

Re: When will the "bluff" ever end?

Hi Leo and Sam, please understand first of all, this is nothing personal, try to stay with it. Birdley was pretty cranky for about 3 weeks, I got nips and tucks everywhere to prove it. Then one morning, no pinning, no biting just a sunny faced little happy bird. We have come leaps and bounds since t...

Re: too much stimulus

Yes, indeed, I couldnt agree more, any sudden drop of stuff on the floor, then we get spooked. It all comes down to what they are used to actually. I have a large dog (we are talking almost 40Kgs here) which Birdy has grown up with so far, no problems Birdy is walking around on the floor all the tim...

Re: What to Feed your Parrot (recipes, toxicities, links too

Hi Melika, thank you for this very informative selection of do's and dont's for food. I feed my 5 month old fresh sprouting seeds (washed about 10 times in a 12 hour period, then put in a container in the fridge), its all sorts of beans, peas, seeds etc in there, veggies and fruit daily as well as s...

Re: Hi everyone, thought I should join the fun

Hi Bird Brain House, looks like its full throttle over there! I just love to see happy, playful and healthy birds, so many people dont educate themselves on how to keep a bird, which is soo sad, so on the upside, you get to see these happy chaps, and its just wonderful. Keep up the good work!

Birdy's first cuddle

Birdy is 4 months old tomorrow, he (she?) was handraised and we got him at 8 wks. I got my first cuddle on Wednesday nigh, whereby he sat on my shoulder leaning in to the side of my ear, absolutely quiet and still, soo cute, this lasted for 30 minutes and made me feel very special. He loves his new ...

Greetings from a warm, sunny Cairns in QLD Australia

Hi everyone, I am excited to join this forum and I am glad that I found such a world of wealth in regards to IRN information. We got Birdy as a 8 week old handraised baby in December. Our first IRN, we have had cockatiels previously, we did not know much about them either. Since then we have read up...
