target training does wonders, you should watch some videos on youtube about target training.
the best first step in developing a bond and trust, is learning the step up. you are on the right track, and after your bird learns the step-up the fear of your hands will most likely disappear.

Re: Weird behavior
you will probably get better response for your query in the behavior section, but your irns feet might be dry, and itchy, is he picking them, or drawing blood? what does his/her feet look like?

Re: My green IRN's feet seem to be turning white.
i don't think it is anything to worry about, he is just growing up, and the scales on his feet are developing. some ringnecks have dark feet and some have lighter colored feet. if they appear to be really dry, and he is picking at them or anything you might think about a checkup at the vet, but othe...

Re: IRN can still be tamed :O
Absolutely! it will take time an patience, but there is no bird that is untamable. offering treats, ect are great! and they help build trust, but target training and learning to step up are the key, a bird that knows to step up is a beginning to a trusting relationship. there are alot of videos on y...

Re: i dont hear any word help
I am a little confused as to what you need help with? are you losing your hearing, or is your bird not talking?

Re: Question about a toy?
I know that sometimes they can bond with the bird in the reflection, this happened with my mothers parrotlet, but my ringneck Pakshi doesn't seem to have any interest in mirrors at all, I think it depends on you bird, but I know that it can affect there behavior sometimes.

Re: Hello from another South African...
Welcome, It would probably be a good idea to find a local avian vet, and take Rio for a checkup, otherwise.... It takes time for feathers to fall out and regrow. you seem to be doing things the right way, a healthy diet, and lots of fresh veg and fruit, and some time will heal him up, and have him l...

Re: Dog deterrent pellet additives? (ex. cayenne powder)
Mixing cayenne wouldn't hurt the bird, but it might hurt the dog. unfortunately you probably have little choice but to move it to where they cannot reach it, because I have the feeling that they would probably make a mess of it just for fun, even if they cannot eat it. I know my dog will eat anythin...

Re: a few questions
I get my Pakshis nails trimmed every 6 weeks at the vet, he doesn't seem to mind it, they only take the tiniest bit off the tip of his nails. Doing trick training, foraging, and flight training should keep both of you busy for hours. there are lots of great videos on YouTube about training, and ther...

Re: My IRN
Ill tell you, mine prefers the cheapest toys you can buy, if i buy expensive toys designed for birds, not even interested. but cut up a toilet paper roll, or baby rattle, or those really big leggos, and hes all over it. as far as trusting you, with my Pakshi, it all started with learning step up, af...

Last chance to guess on Pakshi's sex.
I took pakshi to the vet today to get a checkup and wing / nail trim, and they took a couple feathers to do a dna test. Pakshi didnt seem to mind too much, and the results will be here in about a week.... so get your guesses in, lol

Re: Any Guesses? Pic heavy 56k - no-way
OK, so, would it be safe to say...... Although I do not know the parents of my bird, I do know the makeup of their chicks because all the babys where in one cage when pakshi came home with me. that being said, there where 3 blue cinnamon and the rest where regular green. If what I have read in my re...

Re: Any Guesses? Pic heavy 56k - no-way
ok, so pakshi is a light blue, almost turquoise color, with some light blue, turquoise, and grey in his wing with almost completely grey primaries. as well as a light/pastel blue and grey tail. he has light colored feet, with pink toenails, and light blue/grey eyes. so to me he sounds like a blue pa...

Re: Any Guesses? Pic heavy 56k - no-way
Is do I, I have felt since day one that he was male, but you never know. I have read that the males can display female behavior, and visa versa. however he was only around other ringnecks when he was less than 2 months old so I don't think that he would have learned behaviors, but Im not very knowle...

My name is Dean and this is my baby Pakshi. he/she is about 12-14 months old, Pakshi has been living with me since September of 2010. Pakshi is a JOY, he/she is so sweet, and loves scratches, and is wolf whistling and mumbling stuff. so cute! I am a Paramedic so I work only 8 days a month, and the r...
