Hello, I am wondering how old is Nila, my Bobby is 2 years old and has not uttered a word yet, is there still hope?? She is very good at ringing like the telephone though, drives us nuts. I do wish she would talk. I have had to hide all the shiny things in my kitchen, she chuckles away to herself as...

Thanks for your replies, yes she has had a mirror in the cage but we took it away, she became very aggressive with it. In the last couple of days, as soon as she gets out she makes straight for the shiny bowl. We do take it away for periods, then she starts her telephone ringing and will not give up...

Bobby's imaginary friend
I must be doing something wrong, I submitted this subject a week ago but have not seen it come up. Bobby has an imaginary friend. Every day when we let her out of the cage she makes for anything shiny that she can see herself in. Sometimes she sits and gabbles away for hours. I presume she thinks it...

Bobby and his/her imaginary friend
Hello all, Our Bobby has been acting very strange lately. She used to have a mirror in the cage but we took it away as it was driving us crazy, she would peck at it and make the most loud noises. Each morning when we open up her door to let her out (she is hardly ever in the cage), she makes for any...

Hi there, we live in Central Otago New Zealand, we put Bobby's cage on a hook under a large Orange Blossom tree, each afternoon I open up his cage and he has a great time climbing the tree, but she always answers us when we call her. It is close to a balcony on our house, she loves to run around the...

talking
Hello all, I was wondering if males or females talk better. I think my Bobby has turned out to be a girl, almost a year old, but not talking as yet. She makes all sorts or throaty noises, but has not actually spoken. We have been hanging the cage out in a tree these lovely spring days here in New Ze...

I have covered Bobby each night ever since I have had him or her, I suppose (I'll say he) takes it as being the norm. His cage is in the lounge with us all the time so he can hear what is going on, but he has never bitten or sulked at all. He is just on a year now, and is so cuddly it is unreal, jus...

Would the person from Australia get back to me re psittacosis, I just wonder if I should let Bobby drink from my cup and have a peck at my dinner etc. with all that bird flu last year, I read that Parrots and pigeons carry it as well as chickens, and I often give him a kiss on the beak? Would love t...

Hello again, many thanks to all who have answered my letter, well it could be a boy or girl, I will have to wait and see now that both boys and girls do the clucking thing. Bobby is so friendly to me, not so my husband, but it does not bite, not intentionally anyway, cuddles up under my chin or on ...

Is it Springtime
Each time I go to pat or get my IRN to step onto my arm (he or she) squats down and goes all clucky, I was wondering if it is because it is now Springtime in New Zealand, and can someone tell me is it a male or female that does this. Also it just loves on my shoulder, but I find that all the little...

Mimic's the telephone
My IRN Bobby mimics the telephone from the time he wakes in the morning until he goes to sleep at night, just about drives us crazy. Can anyone tell us how to get him interested in something else. He is 10 months old now, and not yet talking. He is really affectionate and friendly though, loves cudd...

Thanks for your letter about Ducky and your cats. I had not heard of saliva being dangerous, quite often Bobby pokes his head in and around my mouth, and often gives me kisses. Is this dangerous to me and Bobby? I have had to clip his wings once again, because he was having some really bad crashes, ...

Crashing in to windows
Hello again, this time I am asking about wing clipping. When I bought Bobby from the Pet shop, she clipped his wing for me, but left the two outside long wings uncut, he can still fly. Whenever he is out and I leave the room he tries to follow me, but ends up crashing into the windows and walls and ...

A little worried
My IRN Bobby is approx. 12 weeks old. We fed him with formula for a while after we got him, then he gradually did not want it. I am worried that he is not eating enough. Each morning I give him a variety of vege's and fruit, eg. grapes, strawberry, cherries, apple, pear. He loves sweet corn on the c...

IRN's and cats
I am wondering what would happen if I let my IRN out on to the floor with the cat inside. Do you think the cat would go for it, or would the bird be able to stand up to other animals. We have a big fluffy Keeshond Dog but they do not bother each other, but the cat might be a different story. I wonde...

Thank you for that tip, I will try him/her with a toilet roll, sounds like fun. Can you give me an idea of the size of your bird cage, we have never owned a Parrot before, I believe IRN's grow to about 16 inches, the tail being about 6 inches of that. He appears to have a ring around his neck but it...

I have a 3 mths Blue IRN
Hello, I live in New Zealand, and have a new blue IRN. He is approx. 3 months old, and is hand reared and very affectionate. He hops onto my hand, plays on the floor, does not worry about the cat and dog, the cat plays with him through the bars of the cage, and "Bobby" plays back with him. I would n...
