Re: does anyone else in the world have a jet black beak at 4

There are two breeders in SA that I know of with black beaked IRNs. They seem to be able to produce offspring with darker beaks as well, but very little information is available yet.

Hi Mike, wonderful pictures, thank you! Here I suppose the use of a word 'smooth' is in the eye of the beholder. When considering the back view of your TurquoiseEmerald Cleartail hen, I would not call the psittacin phenotype on the wings to be 'smooth'. I can definitely see a difference in the colou...

Re: mutation indigo

Oom Buks, Mike is correct in saying that psittacin is a yellow pigment. When looking at a feather under a microscope, the green colour splits up into two regions, the underlying feather structure shows a blue colour, and deposited on top of that you see yellow granules. When we zoom out our eyes are...

This phenotype explains why SB owners never saw Turquoise bred from SBs. They never kept the non pied long enough (3 months) for Psittacin to appear , hence believing no Turquoise at all. Very plausible. I have a DF misty hen bred by Dr Deon that we caught out and handled end of December when my wi...

Re: Dark and Blue linkage rate in IRN

Hi Recio, from what I've seen and heard in IRN, the crossover of dark and blue is rather difficult and therefore the region of 15% sounds reasonable to me. I don't know if anybody has crunched the numbers though. The white eye ring group of lovebirds also has a dark and blue factor. Unfortunately, a...
