Egg Incubation Timing Question
Hi All, I have a couple of questions to ask about egg incubation: 1) If I moved eggs that are laid 7 days earlier from one nest to another, would the hen know by smell that these are not her eggs? 2) Due to the eggs being 7 days earlier than hers and the chicks being born earlier will the hen know t...

How to build a suspended avairy?
Hi All, I was wondering whether anyone could point me towards either a website or a instructional book to purchase that is recommended to assist me in building my own suspended avairy. Any diagrams / pictures of other members aviaries would be ideal to assist me in learning. (all of my aviaries are ...

Re: Can't wait for pin feathers... Dark red coloured eyes?
David, The red eyed birds 90% of the time come from the father being split for either ino, cin. or pallid The red eyed birds should be hens So, whatever the red eyed chick will be , let's say pallid father is Blue split pallid, nothing to do with the hen in this case. PS: I just realised your hen i...

Re: Can't wait for pin feathers... Dark red coloured eyes?
I was thinking ino myself, but it it possible for inos to be produced, when the hen is pallid? (I didn't think the pair can produce inos (split inos possibly), but not visual) Do pallid and cinnamon birds have dark red eyes? (Apologies for my consistent questioning). I highly doubt the CHF theory, I...

Can't wait for pin feathers... Dark red coloured eyes?
Hi All, A pair of my IRNs have had three chicks (oldest being 6 days old). The parent birds are a visual Blue Cock to Turquoise Blue Pallid Hen (I am unaware of their splits / genetic history). Here comes the part that is confusing me. Of the three chicks, 1 has 'normal' dark coloured eyes (I am ass...

Confusion on Gencalc
Please help:
What chicks will I get from the following pairs based on gencalc?
Lutino Cock to Creamino Hen
Blue Cock to Turquoise Blue Pallid Hen
I am thinking:
Pair One: 1.0 ino x 0.1 turq (parblue) ino
Pair Two: 1.0 blue x 0.1 turq parblue pallid.
Would appreciate if someone could confirm.
Thanks...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Put leg bands on the two largest chicks today. I think I was just in time for chick 1 as it was a bit of a squeeze to get the band on but it hasn't come off. Chick 2's band has fallen off once and I found it in the wood shavings and have put it back on again. I have never really looked at a baby IRN...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Hey Jono, So sorry to hear about your chick! The poor thing must have been in heaps of pain... Hopefully the others are growing perfectly well! My 4 from Pair 1 are growing well, touch wood. All seem to be thriving, which continues to surprise me Pair 2 are on 4 eggs, I suspect 4 eggs will be all fo...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
14 September - Update Pair 1: Egg 4 has hatched. All chicks seem to be doing well... I have been surprised with the fertility of the final egg... (Obviously candled too early). Pair 2: Still on 2 eggs. Hen doesn't seem to be sitting tight, so I am predicting an additional egg or two... (Wait and see...

Question - RE: Leg Bands (Australia)
Hi All, I was hoping for some guidance from you all, re: standard practice in leg banding IRNs in Australia. My questions are what are the standard practices for IRNs Australia wide? Left leg or Right Leg? Leg band Characters upside down (towards birds body) or Leg band Characters right side up (tow...

Re: Breeding Season Australia
Hi Ring0 interested in what you might find in terms of change in breeding periods. If my info adds any extra value this has been my activity this season. Both of the following pairs are new pairs (brought together this season). Both hens were purchased in March 2013, both Cocks bought May 2013... Pa...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Hi All, An update on my breeding progress for 2013 breeding season: Pair 1: First chick hatched 11 September 2013 (one chick each day subsequently, currently three chicks) with one egg remaining. When I candled the eggs at day 11 three looked fertile, 1 looked clear so I will leave the egg for anoth...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Hi All, An update, my second pair have started their courting. I noticed the blue cock bird feeding the pastel blue lacewing hen, but didn't see him get to the important part of the deal, even though the hen was ready... :?: Hopefully this will progress in the next few days... (They are roosting ver...

Re: First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Thanks to both of you for your responses and recommendations.
On the basis of your experience and recommendations, I will leave the egg/s alone and keep my other pair together and see what spring might bring.
Thanks for your responses,
David

First Egg - 2013 Breeding Season (Adelaide, Australia)
Today I have found my first egg for the season (after a few years break from IRNs) :D . I am very happy! A quick question, is it normal for IRNs in Adelaide, South Australia to start laying in August (winter)? I am certain the eggs have a good chance of being fertile, but should I discard them and w...

IRN GenCalc - Pastel Violet?
Hi All, A question: I have purchased two new IRNs, 2012 bred violet blue birds: Cock Bird - Pastel Violet (Blue) (Bred from Pastel Violet Cock to Violet Cobalt Hen) Hen Bird - Violet (Blue) (Bred from Violet Cock to Blue Hen) When these reach maturity, what will be the outcome of this pairing? Grey Green Pallid Cock x Creamino Hen
Hi All,
I am unsure how to input Grey Green Pallid into the GenCalc... (what is a grey green pallid in GenCalc terms?)
Can anyone advise how this can be done? Also what are the mutation outcomes of such a pairing?
Thanking you in advance
David

I also noticed the foot colour immediately when I looked at the picture. Is that an indicator that they are split to ino?

Re: Calling IRN breeders from Australia
Some great information in this thread
I am assuming South Australia's breeding season will be generally close to Queensland, perhaps slightly delayed.
Is my interpretation correct?

Hi, new to the forum and looking to learn
Hi IRN Forum Members, I am moving back into IRNs after breeding cockatiels for a few years! I am very interested in learning more about mutatoons (when I was previously breeding IRNs I only had blue pairs) and also getting to know so much more from each and every one of you... I have recently purcha...
