Re: First time with IRN's
I have read, and heard from some breeders, that if you have two [especially a male and a female] they are more likely to bond with each other instead of you. Although some people will beg to differ, in my personal experience I have found that male birds are a lot more friendly than female birds. And...

Re: First time with IRN's
hope this helps! the males get their rings around 2 years old. my ringneck is almost two -- his ring isn't black but there is a definite "shadow" of where it is. my little guy started making noise pretty early...he was whistling, making little chirpy noises and even was saying "aww ye...

Re: Talking ability?
oh and maybe stick with one phrase at a time. like if you want him to say peanut. keep repeating peanut and then when he learns peanut, move onto another word or sound. just a thought!

Re: Plucking?
my little guy started doing this recently. but i think our situation is different -- he's a year and a half and going through a molt...we think he gets itchy or is just plain irritated by the new feathers. anyway, get some foraging toys and stuff them with all its favorite treats. that keeps ours oc...

Re: At what age did you ringneck start talking?
newman's first words were "awww yeah!" and then he started with the cat call whistle. he makes all kinds of kissy noises and half the time now he just makes crap up. but he can also say "what", "whose a good boy" and our dogs name "feenie". i love when he says...

Re: How long did your ringneck bluffing last for?
newman was a hand raised baby and he has always been very, very sweet. BUT he did go through bluffing and i would say for a good two months. he became very territorial of his cage and it became difficult to get him out with out getting nipped. we had to bribe him to come out with treats. we got thro...

Re: molting question --- update for newman!!
got my little newman into the vet today.vet said he could just be itchy from molting. she did a poop sample and that came out clear but vet decided to run some blood tests just to check everything . we get those results tomorrow. if anything comes back on the blood tests, he will probably have to go...

Re: molting question
ok thanks azure. i'm going to try and get him into the vet today...when my husband and i were cuddling with him last night, we noticed a little bald spot under ONE of his wings. he must have started to pluck yesterday [i say yesterday, because it was the first time he's consistently "growled&qu...

hello all! new here!
hello everyone! we're new here. we've browsed around the site for quite some time and used this site for research before buying our little man. we have a baby turquoise ringneck named newm. [like newman but without the "an"]. we got him in June 2010 and he was about 3 months old then so he...
