Re: We need advise! please help!

As far as I know, IRNs are okay with another bird as long as it's a ringneck. So, yes, it would be okay to get another one. I don't believe they would turn 'wild' as you say, as long as you keep interacting with them, but it will take more of your time. I don't recommend getting another species. My ...

Re: I NEED HELP BECAUSE I'M CONFUSED!

Every bird is different. The hands on approach worked for me and my buddy, but I didn't really rush into anything. I read like a maniac when I first got him, but just a decade ago, you couldn't find a decent book on parrot mind and behaviour in my native language. Come to think of it, you probably s...

Re: Have you "adopted" a bird before?

Nearly all my animals are adopted. My IRN was around 6 years old when I got him. I had no idea about taming and was eating books on parrots for the first week. There wasn't much useful info, but he on his own proved to be a good teacher and we managed to tame each other. I guess it's true about prev...

It' still amazes me how fast they can recover. I'm glad Boo has someone caring by his side. :D

Re: squiggy has refused his new perch

Hehe, I have the same problem, but with everything new. What I usually do is just sit down in the same room and start playing with the new thing, trying to look like I'm having the time of my life. I also frequently take it in my hands while he can see me and just hold it, then put it back (I'm begi...

Re: smoke anyone?

Yes, cigarette smoke is bad anough for us humans, let alone birds. Their lungs are more sensitive than ours and they are more likely to get sick from it and die. When they breathe in, the air is passed through their lungs twice and that way they absorb more oxygen - plus anything else that happens t...

Re: My male IRN chewing feathers until they bleed - Help ple

Have you taken him to vet already? Before anything else, you should do a thorough checkup to make sure the bird is physically healthy. Also, if your bird frequently bleeds, you should learn how to pull out a blood feather in case of an emergency. One every two months isn't much of a problem, but if ...

Re: clingy!

Mine is relatively clingy. He doesn't live up to my dog's standards, but he likes to know where I am. If he's on the floor, he'll follow me everywhere I go in a very inconspicious manner. Often I would sit somewhere and something will start tugging at the back of my sweater or he'll be trying to cli...

Re: Taming an aviary bird

... so i was wondering if i could replace the peanut butter for something like strawberry jam? will it be harmful for the bird to eat it? or will he get fat? lol cheers I'd stay clear from anything that contains refined sugar, salt or any additives or preservatives. I think it's best to keep it as ...

Re: our cage area set up

This is very nicely set up, and what's even better is that the two of them are obviously enjoying it. That second last photo of Janey ... I think I melted inside, she's so precious. Charlie looks awesome even when wet, without that typical someone-just-spilled-maple-syrup-on-me look. The photos insp...

Re: can any help on tips to tame 2 yr old ringneck male...pl

You and your ringneck are still very new to each other. As Ellie said, give him some time to adjust to the new environment. Right now, you're a stranger to him, so he will react accordingly. Also, at this time, I wouldn't stick my hand into his cage, aside from changing his food and water. Keep your...

Re: IRN's foot has no grip strength?

Get Boo to an avian vet ASAP. There's a possibility he has broken his leg. You can't be 100% 'till you've seen an x-ray and you'll want to be sure as soon as possible. Bird bones heal faster than human and if, by chance, his bones heal the wrong way, he'll have to go through a procedure where they a...

Re: Introduction

Thank you so much, Ellie! Dodo literally clips, breaks his feathers. He doesn't pluck (pull) them out, never did. I can only guess what caused the behaviour, since he came with it. There have been ups and downs, he occasionally grew his tail back (so beautiful) and many feathers on his wing, but mos...

Introduction

Hello everyone. I've been lurking around for the last few days and really appreciate all the nice info. I live with one ringneck, Dodo. He's a vibrant grassy green. He was an adult when he came in several years ago, and a very messed up one at that. I don't know anything about his past, so it remain...
