Re: Nervous about getting an IRN because of bluffing
:) I still have 5 of my babies, and go through bluffing and biting with them every day, one of them is much worse than the others. They are in a large cage inside, but are not clipped, and are fine until they know that play time's over. Then the fun begins. One is big on biting, but I find if I hold...

Re: My Babies
Here are 6 of the bubs as of yesterday. They youngest two are still in the box. The smallest seems to get picked on in the big cage, so I've separated the two smallest, they still all like to go into the box at night lol. They dive into it when they see it. Three of them had their wings clipped on F...

Re: baby housing
I currently have my 8 in a large plastic dark tub, that hubby's drilled lots of airholes in. I can put small food and water containers inbetween the holes, and the babies are nibbling at the pellets. I use the pet bedding, $14 for a large bale, which is fine wood shavings. I was using old towels, bu...

Re: how do i get my irn to come to me?
Hi Kratos, I think your answer is patience. I am currently running round the house trying to catch 3 of my 8 fledlings that have just started flying lol. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to get their wings clipped. It's just too hard.
Keep persevering, it will happen! Sorry I can't offer more help

Thanks guys, sorry I've been a bit busy, and the heat's knocking me around a bit. I've put all the babies in together today, and I needn't have worried. The smaller ones are definately the biggest pigs, and the older ones patiently wait for the frenzy to die down lol. Here are some pics a week on...

Julie, do you keep all of yours housed together? I currently have all the smaller ones in a shoebox with a clean towel changed at every feed. Hi David, three of them were hatched on the 23rd October, and one of the smaller ones is from the same clutch too. Julie how do you stop the bigger ones trampling the smaller ones? Some new pics of my brood. I usually feed the small ones separately to the bigger ones, but put them all together to get a pic. It got a bit messy lol. Found a great new produce place today, and got a 5kg mix of parrot mix with big chunks of fruit and nuts mixed in. You can add extra seed and they m...

Awww that's so sad. I'm sorry for your loss I've put a baby back after feeding it for a day and night, and the parents took it back with no problems. Maybe it had something wrong with it and they knew?
Sorry have no answers, but sorry again to hear.

Hi David, I'm so glad to hear it's going well! I know all about little pigs lol. They are so much easier when they're small aren't they? All of mine (8) are really good to feed, but the little ones are slow. You have to wait for them to swallow, then the food gets too cold lol. But it's going to be ...

Re: Does anyone here make up their own hand raising mix?
Thanks guys. There isn't anyone readily available that I could ask to show me at the moment. Currently I'm handfeeding 8, but I have separated them, from the 3 larger, and 5 smaller. The 5 smaller all have no feathers coming through as yet, and a couple still have their eyes closed. They are the bes...

Re: My ringneck wont stop shaking/vibrating
He/She sounds cold. It's amazing how fast they loose their body heat. I feel terrible when I have to take mine out to feed, if I'm not fast enough they start shivering. Mine are in a shoe box, with air holes. With a fluffy towel made into a little nest.

Re: Mum not feeding chick
It will be hard, but you have to get a firm, but not too firm hold around it's little body, just so it can't move. I use a bent spoon, and then gently prize it's beak open to pour the food down. You'll have to persevere, and it will resist every step of the way, but one day soon it will 'click' and ...

Hi Greenbean, I would pull it out and start feeding immediately. I had to pull 4 yesterday, 2 haven't got their eyes open yet, but all are doing really well. The smaller ones are so much easier than the big ones, they don't care who the mummy is, unlike the bigger ones.

Thanks Pink Devil. Well I pulled the babies out late this afternoon. Mum doesn't seem to be coping, and had sort of shunted herself to the fartherest point away from them (the box). She was looking very stressed, and I thought it would be for the best. The babies were all screaming for food, and the...

I think also I go through so much as I spoon feed too. There's quite a bit of 'spillage' I've never been shown how to use a crop needle, and wouldn't feel confident using one with my shakey hands lol

Hi all, just curious if anyone makes up their own hand feeding mixes? And what the results are? I currently am feeding my babies Vetafarm, which is over $50 a bag here. Hi Akka, I'm currently handraising 4 of the monsters lol ( I love them dearly), and all of them when they step up kind of like to get a grip on your hand with their beaks first before their feet follow, if that makes sense. Don't let them bluff though, a couple of mine have 'tried it on' with the 'I...

These are my 'babies', and I'm very proud of them! Last year I gave all four away to friends and good homes. This year will be the same. I have another 8 out in the aviery, but I'm waiting for another week or so if I can, (one of the males got away, leaving Mum with the load).
