It's official... Yoshi is a FEMALE...

So, I have been a frequent poster on this forum and had asked many questions regarding my IRN... We were hoping that Yoshi would be a male.. But we DNA sexed Yoshi and our new Lutino IRN this past week and have just found out that both of them are female.. I can't lie, I'm a little disappointed... B...

Adopting a macaw, already have an IRN. I'm NERVOUS

Hey guys, It's been awhile since I've posted on here, but Yoshi is almost a year and a half and he is doing wonderfully! My husband and I recently moved and Yoshi is still adjusting to the new environment. But yesterday a friend called and said she knew someone who was trying to adopt out a macaw. S...

Molting or Plucking?? :(

Yoshi just turned one year old 2 days ago! And recently he has been losing feathers. A few here and there from his tail and I swept up his cage today and found little green feathers... Usually all that is found is his little fluffs of down. I'm a LOT worried right now. I read online that they go thr...

Re: Do males display like females sometimes?

Hi yes it is possible for younger IRN's to display both behaviours of male and female. Who told you he was a male, and how did they know? It would drive me insane not knowing for 2 years whether I had a male or female. Regards Shane Oh believe me! It's driving me insane! lol But I looked online for...

Do males display like females sometimes?

Yoshi is 11 months old. We were TOLD* he is a male. But we don't know because we haven't officially sexed him. But, he started displaying like a male does, dancing at his perches, like standing up really tall with his wings in a heart and dancing AT things like his perches, toys, etc. But he is 11 m...

Ok. So Yoshi is 8 months old and he has been sneezing a LOT lately.. There is no discharge that I can see and he scratches at his nose holes.. I'm really concerned. I keep his cage clean, very clean. My friend came over today and she was wearing some perfume. Well, I couldn't smell it so I didn't th...

I don't think anything is wrong. When they are that young, there is really no way to tell if he'll just grow out of it. We got Yoshi when he was only 5 weeks old and he couldn't walk well. But eventually he was able and he's 8 months now and completely normal. Also- the picture you posted was on til...

Yoshi is 7 months old this week! :) Ok... Well, the breeder told us he was a male. But, he did that by looking at him, as his head is very flat. haha. I have a female ringneck at my mother's house... But we got Yoshi really wanting a male. I had a male a long time ago named Baby, he died from a tumo...

Ok, in the shower this morning, Yoshi got his little head in the door, but I thought he was still on his towel. I closed it slightly and he scraped his cere. The little nose hold part on his beak... Yoshi won't take a bath...

So like, 3 weeks ago we clipped Yoshi's wings... Before doing so, he bathed almost 3 times a week. And he loved it. He would dive for the water in our sink. Now that he can't fly, he won't be near water. His feathers are starting to look pretty ruffed up and he doesn't seem to be preening as often.....

Re: When to start giving solid food and water?

As long as you are still administering formula, you could introduce really soft foods now... But I would wait until 2 months or so... Just because your bappy is nibbling doesn't necessarily mean that he wants solid food... It could just be wanting to feel and exam what is around it. :) I'd say keep ...

I would say it is not. And I say that because the cage is not very tall and the bars are spaced very close... An Indian Ringneck should be housed in something that has a bar width of at least 1/2'' to 3/4''... And it should be more like... 60'' high or so... Hope I helped! We recently bought our IRN...

Re: Harness suggestions?

Hey, Good question! The best harness is the Aviator Bird Harness. It's really wonderful as you don't have to clip anything on and scare the bird to death. I am currently working with Archimedes through positive reinforcement to get him to wear it. It's important you don't rush and put the harness o...

Re: To clip or not to clip?

Hey Yoshi, Good questions! Though it’s true clipping the wings will keep your Indain Ringneck grounded, it’s well worth it in my opinion. Ringnecks are not very cuddly parrots to begin with and having a ringneck that files will only help to reinforce this hardwired trait. My tamest ringnecks become...

It depends on how long your bird will be spending in the cage for. Should be ok, better if a larger cage could be found though. :) Have you tried looking on ebay, a lot of cages on there. Well, right now he only spends probably 7 hours a day in the cage. If we're home, he's out with us. Are you thi...

You dont really have to pull out the rest of the blood feather, you could also apply flour(quickstop or whatever u use to arrest bleeding) to the broken tip, where the blood is coming out from, that should stop the bleeding. Why do you pull the feathers off, when they break? Because a small amount of blood loss to us can actually be a great deal to them. For example about 20 to 25 drops of blood loss on an IRN can be lethal. You can just snip off the bent feather and leave it. Over the next molt, it should regenerate. ...
