Re: First day with my new IRN!
He just came home tonight ! :) He was at the breeder's house for 5 days and he's gained weight. He's now 117 grams and doesn't fall asleep. I'm going to continue his meds for another week as prescribed. When I was visiting him this week, he would bob his head and make his call whenever the breeder's...

Re: First day with my new IRN!
Raja's breeder offered to take him in to get him back up to good health. He's been there for 3 days now and she emailed me this morning to tell me that he is starting to gain weight and is more alert! Don't know if he is out of the woods yet, but he's headed in the right direction! The vet thought h...

Re: Poss Vit A deficiency and resultant breathing problem
Thank you. Unfortunately I phoned the only other vet (within a 30 mile radius) and they were honest enough to admit that they wouldn't know where to begin examaning a bird, and would probably only do the same as the first vet and prescribe a general antibiotic to put in the water. Poor little mite ...

Re: First day with my new IRN!
He is so beautiful. Just wanna snuggle into his little face. lol luckily i can do that now:) I wouldn't have tried that the first 2 days! UGG! The reason I can snuggle into his face is because he is sick :( I took him to an avian vet today because he is sleeping toooo much and they gave me antibiot...

I know this is an old topic but is this true? I've noticed my 10 week old IRN sleeps ALOT. He eats fine and preens himself, but mostly he sleeps.

Re: First day with my new IRN!
Thanks again IMRAN-C. I watched your youtube videos a couple months ago and that's why I decided on a ringneck to complete my flock. I spent more time with Raja today and I am happy to say that we made it through the whole day without a single bite! I took him outside with me and he freaked out at f...

Re: First day with my new IRN!
thanks for the reply :) Thanks for the welcome. I've actually been a member on this board for a month and a half. I was posting my questions about whether to choose a female or a male. I was originally going to bring home a beautiful blue female, but she was too timid around me, so i choose a green ...

First day with my new IRN!
Ok, I brought home my 10 week old handfed male IRN the other evening and I must say that he just seems different than other parrots I have had. I'm having trouble reading his mood and comfort level. This morning I uncovered his cage and he was hesitant to step up, he pulled back a little when my han...

Can they learn to get along?
So my baby girl IRN could be ready to come home in the next week or two. It would be wonderful for my entire flock to get along and socialize with each other somewhat. I know my Dusky Conure is out... he is a people bird and is aggressive to all other birds and will need work, but I have a couple bu...

Re: I need to choose... female or male. Help!
They usually wean between 10-12 weeks. The more ringnecks present--the faster they wean. A single ringneck can easily go into week 12 and still not wean. Best Wishes, IMRAN-c Thanks IMRAM-c. She is no longer in the brooder and is now caged with her brother. There ARE other baby IRNs (greens and vio...

Re: To clip or not to clip?
Not to highjack Yoshi's thread, but I've been wondering the same thing about the little girl I am bringing home soon. The breeder offers wing clipping, but I was thinking that I would bring her home and see how it goes. I've clipped wings before so that's not a problem. I'm just wondering if it was ...

oh and my Dusky Conure, Harper is a male... I think. "he" now tries to pleasure himself on my hand (pretty forcefull about it too!) when I am using the laptop. Is it safe to assume he is a he?

Re: I need to choose... female or male. Help!
Thanks for the replies. She is now 9 weeks old and hopefully coming home soon. Since I have other birds in my family, hopefully she is young enough to be socialized with them without being to aggresive to them (or to me and my GF for that matter) At what age do they usually wean? The breeder says th...

Re: new IRN coming next month!
Oh, I forgot to incude some pictures! This is Sammy and Harper. It looks like they are good buddies, but this was a RARE moment. They have both claimed the big cage and the smaller one that was meant for Sammy remains vacant. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_E8Ew1dpFljo/TCOS_rRxSNI/AAAAAAAAD9M/_Qp9or51m0A/s512...

Re: new IRN coming next month!
The male has been reserved and the breeder talked to an experienced breeder of IRNs and told me that it depends on how they are socialized and handled. I'm still taking the female :) I'm just really curious... I've seen several videos on Youtube with male IRNs being very interactive and talking to o...

While I don't have an IRN yet, I can relate a little with my conure. He's such a sweet baby and insists on being with me most of the evening, but everyday when I come home from the office, the first thing he does is bite the hell out of my hand when I open his door. He hangs upside down yelling and ...

Re: I need to choose... female or male. Help!
I'm hoping whether I end up with a male or female that the new baby will bond with me as well as get along with my growing bird family. I have Harper, the conure and I forgot to mention Sammy my untame baby budgie (well he's tame, but would rather spend time alone). My girlfriend is also getting me ...

Re: new IRN coming next month!
Thanks for the replies
When the breeder is back in town next week I will visit the babies again and see which seems to be the best fit. Maybe she will let me feed them. Like I said, I have held the female and she is very sweet and calm.

I need to choose... female or male. Help!
I will be bringing home a hand fed IRN in about 3 to 4 weeks. I originally set out to find a baby blue male and I found a breeder in my area. At the time the DNA test results weren't in and I told the breeder I wanted a male but it didn't matter too much. So I choose the older of the two that showed...

Re: new IRN coming next month!
Thank you for responding. Is it acceptable to repost my question in the Behavior section? That way it's more appropriate and may get a few more responses from other female IRN owners. I handled the female last weekend and she is very sweet and wants to explore though her blue wing feathers just emer...

new IRN coming next month!
Hello All, I didn't know whether to post in the introductions or another section, so please forgive me. My name is Chris and I currently have a wonderful 9 month old dusky conure named Harper, 2 american green tree frogs and 3 australian white's tree frogs(my other obsession). I have been around par...
