Oh well what's a few months of bluffing compared to several years of enjoyment? :D Your bird's bluffing might only last a few weeks, you will have to pos...

Re: Is this a dead forum...?

My IRNs went through a bluffing phase and it was not fun! It didn't last too long, thankfully. Rather than react badly, or get angry, I tried to ignore their behavior. I also learned a good trick to teach them to just bump my finger or hand away when they want to be left alone, rather than bite. So ...

it is very hard to tell the sex of an IRN until they are about 2 years old, as I'm sure you already know. if you have this service available in your part of the world, you could have a bird DNA sexed, which is very reliable. in America this is not very expensive to have done. all of that aside, i ha...

That myths page is awesome! I have two ringnecks, and while they haven't gotten their adult plumage yet, I'm pretty sure one is male and the other female. Archimedes talks and whistles, although not as well as many other ringnecks I've seen. He also started late. He gets an A for effort though, as h...

Kashi went through a very short bluffing stage but it lasted only a few months and she didn't nip too hard. Adopting a parrot is a great thing to do, and considering all the poor birdies out there who need a home, you are doing a great thing to give them a safe, secure and happy place to live. But as people said, adopting a bird has its own issues. Your bird will have a history, and much of the way it beh...

He definitely needs some time to settle in. Ringnecks are not naturally tame birds, so if they aren't handled regularly, they lose their tameness. But it isn't hard to get them comfortable with you! He may very well have a hand phobia. Many birds do, after having seen so many hands rush into their c...

That does sound like bluffing. One of my IRNs did the same thing. She'd step up on to my hand on *her* terms but if I approached her to step up, she'd give me a nip. I read about a method to teach them an alternate way of biting, which saved me lots of pain during their bluffing stage: when they bit...

I think that is good advice. Once you get your birds through the testing out period, I believe many birds resort to biting bec...
