Re: Digging and crooning

Hi Christina.... My Bluey behaves just like your Liebchen and unfortunately I have not been able to minimise the behaviour. I cant even get her to step up because as soon as my hand is near her she begins 'crooning'. I tried not letting her out of her cage unless she stepped up onto my hand but stil...

Re: foraging

Reading this post has really got me thinking about what I provide for my Bluey...so the thinking cap is on! In the meantime I made an origami water bomb out of plan white paper today and popped a few sunflower seeds and cereal flakes inside. WHAT A HIT! At first Bluey just picked it up and threw it ...

Thanks Ellie.

Like you I can't imagine stepping back.....we have come to accept her choice and if my hubby and daughter really want to engage more they will just have to put more effort in. To be honest they are rather hit and miss with their attempts as they fear being bitten.

Re: HELP NEEDED - IRN rules the roost

Miss Jojo, did it take Bluey long to get over having her wings clipped? With her wings clipped Bluey did become somewhat introverted and liked the security of her cage, both in it and on it. She has always been very affectionate with me but has stayed close to her cage, exploring the floor only for...

Re: HELP NEEDED - IRN rules the roost

Hi Sarahrahrah,

I have just read your post and thought it sounded very similiar to my experiences with Bluey.
If you read my post Hooley Dooley! What a tantrum the advice might help.
It sure helped Bluey and I :)

It's been a while since I last posted so thought I would update :) Clipping Bluey's wings has certainly been a posititve experience for all of us. The 'Diva" certainly was tamed! As she is currently moulting and flight feathers are growing back in I will wait to see if there are any recurrences...

Re: Question about wing trimming and taming

I was toying with the idea of letting her stay fully flighted... but we have high ceilings and Janey takes to sitting on the ceiling fans (we never put them on when the birds are out) and chewing the wires and it is impossible for us to get her down without a ladder.... so we trim then partly for h...

This is typical female behavior. All my females do this that are tame. Is she tilting her head back, pinning her eyes, wings slightly open, and clucking? If yes, this is quite normal and not submissive behavior but her way of showing her appreciation for you. When they are in this state they someti...

My baby has not been the same since her wing clip :( The Diva has not just been tamed but seems to have been shocked into submission!!! The wing clip did obviously stop the attacks but now she is reluctant to come out of her cage. When I open her cage she becomes very submissive and appears scared ....

Step 1 complete! This morning I gave Bluey a wing clip, (I have had lots of practice clipping the wings of my cockatiels ) , and was surprised at how well she handled it! I anticipated lots of screaming and biting but thankfully she was pretty calm :) I was a little worried she would take her anger ...

Hi Bec I dont really know how old Bluey is, I have had her for the past 6 months but she was rescued from the wild by a friend about 10 months ago. Over the past couple of days I have noticed a change in Bluey's behaviour. My normally inquisitive, affectionate IRN has become.... Destructo Bird!!!! I know that birds can often form strong bonds with one particular member of the family but I am concerned that our Bluey has developed an unhealthy bond to me. Sometimes when Bluey is given food she holds it up to her face and appears to be seriously checking it out. Hi from Blueys mum, Jo

Owning an IRN is a new experience for my family... We recently agreed to adopt a beautiful blue bird named Bluey (very original I know but you've got to love kids!) of unknown age or sex, (so as there is no visible ring we have decided it's a 'she') Bluey had been loose in the wild and visiting a fr...
