I know in my nest boxes its pretty warm even though its minus 3 outside,I was actually surprised by how warm it was.The hen knows when to go out cause its getting too warm in the box. I have my avairies covered and its quite nice in there when its freezing outside.

Petbarn sells a good egg n biscuit mix.
I make up a mix using
Egg powder
biscuits crumbs
almond meal
Handraising mix
wheetbix
cornflake crumbs
vanilla powder

Sounds a little odd.

To put pics on use a photo site like dropshots,photobucket ect, once you have the pic on the webhosting acc copy the link and then come on here and click on the Img tab (on same bar as ont size ect) then paste your link and do the Img tab again then post.

If the streamers dont work a decent looking tarp and some velcro strips works well to block an entrance and that way it can be either taken down when not needed and opened easily to walk through. It worked well for us when we painted the house and the birds were up one end and the hallway was sealed...

try playing in a bowl of water with your fingers and him near by,he will hopefully become interested in what you are doing and most likely try to bathe in the water and end up having a drink. You may be able to get him to drink fruit juice if you get too worried about him.

They dont always make noises,things like the weather,sunlight in the house ect have an effect on their mood and noises ect.I have 1 irn,2 alexandrians and 2 quakers in my loungeroom and they dont allways make noise at the same time but generally one or the other is talking until the lights go off.

Is the bub being kept in a warm place? Try putting your finger and thumb at each side of the beak coming from above to simulate the mum feeding,just rub the beak while moving your finger on and off the beak.

I took eggs from a pair and put them with a single hen.The single hen had laid her eggs and was sitting on them like she thought they would hatch.It didnt seem to bother her that there was more eggs. The other pair laid again and the egg in with the single hen hatched.

also try thickening the formula up and feed in the morning and put the fruit veg and whatever else you want him/her to eat out where it can be seen and tasted.The thickened formula will keep him full longer and lessen off the hand feeding.

Have they got a good stable pirch? I feed mine a lot of different fruits and veg aswell as seeds at breeding season,they get fruit ect all year but they get a lot more at breeding season.High calcium foods are good to help with egg laying.

I had my bubs in a puppy pen that I made into a bird safe cage,i made it so that i could take the roof off and they could learn to fly safely. My irns dont do this but my female quaker does similar,she puffs,runs and then taps her beak on our foreheads and makes a purring noise and sometimes squeals like she expects to hear it from us. Its up to you if you want to stop her from doing it, but as long as she isnt bitting I think its her way ...

The amount of feathers they loose with a big one ,some people including me have thought we were going to see a dead bird somewhere.They loose that much its scary, but when they finish the molt the feathers come in all nice and shiny and they look so good.

Its hard to say because it would depend on the personalities of the birds.Some irns dont get along with any other birds and then some get along with every other bird.I would definately reccomend having a backup plan just incase they dont get along.

I would wait and see how the one you already have works out. If they want to breed they will find a way box or not.I had a male and female in a quarantine cage,all that was in the cage was a perch and food and water bowls and they were mating right in front of us,they had a clutch that year.

I use bicarb soda and vinegar (white) on my cages ect,the bicarb reacts with the vinegar and bubbles making it heaps easier to get the gunk off. for the cage bars i put the (dry) bicarb powder on first and then spray the vinegar from a spray bottle onto it.

expecting too much too soon comes to mind with some. I dont think getting a bird from a pet shop plays a part because I got my boy Indie from a pet shop and he ended up being a real sweetheart. in this one the Turq irn in the middle is a female but she looks like she is getting a ring, so its pretty difficult to tell. He will be itchy with the feathers coming in,now is a good time to get him used to you touching him,try giving him a little scratch around his head and at the base of his neck and rub his beak . the beak look ok,they get red later on. I mix in some stewed apples or pumpkin ect into the formula so they get a little extra vitamins. Its good that your asking questions,soon you will be able to help others.

looks alex to me.Some breeders cross irn with alexs so there is that chance too. check out the thread i posted (first line) that bird is pretty well feathered and only just has the red coming through.

for the pics i use dropshots,i go to dropshots or other photo hosting sites and click on the pic i want (after its been uploaded to the site) i right click and click properties and copy the image location. come back to this board and paste it into here and then people can click on it and see the pic.

im not quite sure exactly how old mika is in this first pic but you should be able to tell by how much feathers from mine to yours .the next pic down is mika (alex) and spike (irn) they are around the same age and you can see the size difference. http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/60363/20071020/120...

i get a clean syringe (without needle) and put some luke warm water in it and squirt it on the part that has food on it then give a gentle wipe over with a cloth.I wouldnt reccomend saturating him though.

try talking to him/her before you go to grab from box. maybe have a treat to show him too. when my handraised bub that i kept starts doing this i put my index finger and thumb up and say no,if he lunges i gently push his beak away with my finger and say no.it only took him a couple of times to work ...

I had rabbits and guinea pigs in the bottom of my aviary,oscar my male would steal their food and kinda make a game out of it. the only thing is be careful that the guinea pigs dont dig and let the birds out.

:lol: im a shift worker,i go to work as it gets dark. Id say the alarm noises are an alarm clock or similar that your bird has associated with the sun going down.

was the person you got her from a shift worker by any chance? My alex was doing alarm clock noises as soon as the lights turned on in the mornings and then the smoke alarm beeps (battery running out).This got old very quick and the alarm clock disappeared and i now use my ph for the alarm.

does Tajj have any signs of red around the ring area. My boy indie's ring started with a tiny red dot at the back. most colors ring starts under the beak and goes around to the back but lutino starts at the back.

He will still need formula, just not as often. When you do give him formula make it a little thicker to keep him going longer. Try putting things like corn kernells and peas ect in a bowl as kaiser&abbey mentioned they play around with it and throw it around ect but they eventually end up eating it....
