Hi
At 10 weeks old I would say he hasn't figured it out yet. Give him a couple of months and he will be a pro.

Hi Yvette I will try and answer your questions as best I can. 1. From my reading on here, a ring can form around 18 months old, maybe a bit younger. I think what you are seeing now is the normal ring that even the females have. My male is 2 years next month, and has only 1 black feather in his ring,...

Hi Ally
I think from my reading as a general rule, ringnecks shouldn't be housed with other types of birds. Even having 2 pairs of ringnecks in one aviary can be a risk.

no, he means ARN (African Ringneck).
They will usually breed at end of winter I believe, so depending on where you live, it will be at that time.
In terms of age, I think they start around 2ish but it may take them a few times to get it right.

Hi there If you are having trouble with the bird on the shoulder, I would say don't let it on your shoulder till you have solved this problem. Considering this bird is only 2 years old, it is still possible to be male. The rings can sometimes take up to three years to appear so it still has time to come in. Each bird is different as to when they get their ring, and how long it takes to come in.Crisco wrote:Thats not a male ringneck

I see it advertised a lot where you can take the bird early for a cheaper price and finish the hand rearing process yourself. As far as I was aware, it is actually illegal in Queensland to sell an unweaned baby bird.

Hi
Using the gencalc, the pair you have will only produce green babies. That is unless the female is split to blue. In which case, the only way to tell the sex of the babies is to have them DNA sexed.

Hi Dana
IRN's normally go through bluffing after weaning, but bluffing can happen up to 12 months old I think (correct me if I'm wrong).
Is Skye just ignoring you or attacking you when you try to pick her up? Have you changed anything about your appearance?
