Re: Can This Bird Be Tamed?

He's probably just molting. Ringnecks molt once a year, I think. The move might have stressed him a little and triggered molting a little early, but it's probably just natural. Eco started molting a couple of weeks ago. I don't think it's anything to worry about. :)

Re: Exactly what are we and what will we make?

From what I can tell the hen is a lutino and the cock is a normal blue. I'm no mutation wiz either, but that's what it looks like to me. If I managed to do the genetic calculator right, the results should be: 1.0 blue x 0.1 ino % from all 1.0 100.0% 1.0 green /blue ino % from all 0.1 100.0% 0.1 gree...

Re: our new ringneck, velg's wing spreading behaviour questi

Yeah it looks like he is just stretching or maybe he is getting a little hot and is trying to cool off. I don't think it's anything to worry too much about, but since you just got him, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go for a routine check-up with and avian vet if you have one in your area. I hope this...

Re: Can This Bird Be Tamed?

I actually think it would be much easier to tame "Polly" if you clipped his wings. It's really not all that traumatic for the birds if someone who knows what they are doing clips their wings. It's a lot easier to gain his trust when you're not running around chasing him all the time trying...

well the ring kinda appears suddenly. It takes a while for all of the feathers to grow in, but it doesn't get any darker or anything. Once the feathers grow in, it's usually in in one molt. Sorry if that doesn't make any since.

I think the only way blues can be bred is if at least one parent is blue or both parents are split to blue. But don't take my word on that. I've just gotten into the IRN world.

I just went back to where I read that and it said it was between 85 and 99 depending on the quality of the DNA at the tip of the feather (it isn't as accurate if it's about to molt or is contaminated in some other way).

I would say the female is a Pallid-ino.

Check out what it says about Pallid-inos on

It's more towards the bottom of the page. I think it describes Poppy very well.

I think Buzz is a normal Blue.
