Re: New owner. Heisenbird won't allow us to get close to him

I want Abbi to gradually reduce the distance that he sits from the bird, to help him get in closer, to help Heisenbird accept him closer. He cannot currently get close enough to pass the bird a treat directly without upsetting the bird. yes but i was just wondering if inching the treat closer to ab...

The theory behind grabbing the bird and holding it is here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_helplessness yea i can see where they are going with that theory but you could say the same thing about wing clipping... i should have worded it differently by picking him up i didnt mean just grab hi...

Re: New owner. Heisenbird won't allow us to get close to him

Tyeman ~I really would recommend against flooding. It's clear to see the bird is in a cage too small in an extremely vulnerable location. He's scared and it will do no good to scare him further. At this point the very least he needs is to be raised so his high perch is at least 5 feet from the floo...

seeing as its a young hand tamed bird if it still isnt coming round to you by now i would recomend using the sock over hand method and just pick him up and let him realise you mean no harm... The longer he goes without contact the harder its going to be to ever get him back to tame... dont be afraid...
