Re: Finding an Avian Vet Near You and Why You Need One

It has been very hard to find a specialized vet here in Cape Town, South Africa. Anyone else from my area have any recommendations?
Thank you

Re: Baby IRN little bit frightened

Awesome to hear. Sounds like you're doing okay. These little guys are tricky :) but give an assortment and you'll soon see what they pick out and what they don't really like. Because my IRN is still a baby, I boil all his food until it is really soft so it's easier for him to eat. Stuff like peas, c...

Re: Baby IRN little bit frightened

When I brought home my IRN he was 4 weeks old, it's my first time owning a bird and I was very worried because he didn't seem very happy but after a few days he settled down and got used to me. It does take a little while for them to adjust, you must just try to handle them as much as possible, soon...

I was just wondering, I have heard that IRNs are lactose intolerant but there is yogurt on your list? Thank you all for your advice

Re: Baby irn

Hi Keiri I'm no expert when it comes to IRN, my bird is also 5 weeks old and I'm still learning but I can tell you that the advice and food I got from the breeder was horrible. I live in South Africa and the breeder gave me Pronutro cereal to feed to my bird and thinking she must know what she was t...

Re: First time owner needs some advice please :)

Thank you so much for your reply, your advice is very helpful. Having his wings clipped very lightly like you said you do seems like the best option :) I'm not sure how long it takes for their feathers to grow back, how often does your bird get her feathers trimmed? My bird is 5 weeks old now, is he...

First time owner needs some advice please :)

Hello :) I have a 5 week old IRN, thanx to this site I have read ALOT about when/what to feed him ect so I'm sorted there for now, the thing I'm struggling with is clipping his wings. He hasn't started flying yet, he just flaps his wings like crazy. At what age should I get his wings clipped? If the...
