Welcome to the family. Congratulations on your new baby. Nipping should be ignored, push past the nip or simply leave the bird for a short time and try again a few minutes later. Most of the time you can move past the nip to step them up or roll out of the nip if you understand what I am trying to s...

Re: G'day from down under

Hi and welcome Jack, The best thing I can say to you is, give your new fids time, don't expect too much too soon, they will need time to get use to their new surroundings and you. Use good training techniques, be verbal when training and always treat them for good behaviour. Plenty of fresh fruit an...

Welcome to the group Pat. If you have had him/her only a few weeks, i would say that he/she just isn't use to you yet. You should look up some info on training techniques. Find a treat that he/she really enjoys and use this to tempt your bird to do things you would like it to do. Try basic step up t...

You must distract the bird, it sounds like you leave before your husband, or someone is there after you leave, so I suggest you get them to take the bird for a walk to another room in the house while you slip out. The other option is to do what I do, when it is time for me to go, I get his favorite ...

Re: Greetings from far far away...

Hello, 7 weeks old would mean that your baby is not fully weaned as yet and maybe the behaviour is his wanting to be fed. The other issue may be that your baby (if fledged (flying)) already is infact 10 weeks or more old and therefore weaned and is scared of you. Was the bird hand raised ? or from t...

Welcome Faheem, :-) Its not really possible to tell the age of a bird by sight, the only thing you can be sure of is if a ring starts coming in the bird is approx 12 - 36 months old (more likely 24 months on average). Or if the bird is very young around 10 weeks just fledged or younger, other than t...

I have a friend bryan who has all kinds of birds, including IRN and a Macaw called Lizzy, he absolutely adores, but like already said they are alot of work. P.S. do you have nesting boxes in, this can also change things dramatically, natural instinct kicks in. Hard to say, they may never pair. It all depends on them, give them time and wait until it is breeding season there, they will probably change their behaviour at that time. If it is already breeding season you may need to wait until the next. Its all a matter of time, but sorry, how much is totally ...
