max is doing leaps and bounds better, and it has been such a short period of time. all disease tests have come back negative, and we have done a total diet overhall on him. max has taken to the new diet very nicely, and has been eating the vitamins supplemented fruits, and chewing the cuttle. alread...

that is actually really interesting. i never knew that about the Pionus, although i really don't know much about them in general. This will be the first one that i have had to care for. he definitely has some sort of vitamin deficiency, his beak is all flakey and chipping in places, so we are starti...

panic problem

this is not about an irn, but is about a pet parrot. I had just picked up a maximillian pionus from an inexperienced clueless person. This bird is chest plucked, but still has his down, just no green feathering on his chest, and has this horrible panic issue that none of my birds has ever displayed....

my bird did the exact same thing. in fact, she laid claim to my big stock pot, and decided to use it as her nest. she was obsessed with my pot holders, my cabinets, she even hid in my trash can, popping out and nipping my fingers when i least expected. I took the pot out of my cabinet, and placed it...

I did have to get him on an antibiotic, and some birdy pain meds. He is doing a lot better now, and his beak hole is looking a lot better as wel...

I keep all fresh foods like vegis and fruits etc in a seperate bowl from any pellts, seed or grain. and change the water several times a day. my ...

My new guy tried that just recently too, and I have had him for about 2 months now. Toki is the same age plus a few weeks. I think it's just a wierd phase, or maybe he is just nervous with new people. just be consistent, and keep handling him or the problem will definitely get worse. Toki tried this...

i was kinda thinking that myself. Louis I consider a pet, but he is a lot harder to handle than most of my birds. I'm not too nervouse about the legal aspect, but I am a bit put off by the health risk to him. he would have to spend a quarrentine by himself, and that would really mess with him. he is...

I am pretty sure it is a noise that they make when they are content or happy. that is what I have read and been told. my birds only do it when they are relaxed and hanging out with someone they enjoy, so I think that is right.

to stud or not to stud

I had a recent proposition, from someone in my area who also owns ringnecks, that they would like to borrow my older male louis for studding. this would be a several month ordeal for him. I am wondering if I should do it or not. I have of course thought of drawing up a legal contract, so that he wou...

another thing to consider, in the end when your daughter goes to colledge or whatever her endevors are, will you be willing to care for her bird who may be very bonded to her? If you got the cage along with the bird for that price, it sounds about right, at least for the east coast. These birds are awsom, and well worth the money. I think they are even better than many of the more expensive parrots that you could find. they are playful, and sweet, and a lot smarter than p...

my shoulder has become lover's lane. eeeewwwww

So I am kinda perplexed as to why Louis has the sudden urge to come down and romance my female hoff, while sitting right on my shoulder. I get the whole show, from the dance to feeding each other. I wouldnt mind so much if they weren't close enough for me to actually hear them regurgitating . I thin...

is the bird opening their wings in the shape of a heart? if so, sounds pretty male to me. all my girls tilt their heads back and cluck. my mature male does a similar dance to the one that you described, but far more elaborate, as he has had years to perfect it. :)

Well, I didnt origonally name the bird david hasselhoff. it was just her name from her previous home at the party house. I didnt want to change her name when she already knew it. she can't say it, but she knows when she is being addressed I usually call her hoff now for short. She doesnt seem to mind.

wrath of the floor monster

My girl Hasselhoff is at the start of a moult, and as result she has turned into a little green menace. What is going on with my birds?!

So, I am pretty new to the game as far as breeding ring necks goes. I have a pair of birds, male is 5 years old, and the female is 10. The male came from a pet situation, and the female came from a breeder, although she was never allowed to breed. She has laid in the past for her previous owner. I g...
