Yeah, its actually quite amazing how quickly they pick things up. It only took about 2 days to teach him how to shake. As for the kisses, All we did was say 'kiss' then put our nose up to his beak. after a while he'd walk over and lean in to kiss us first When he was learning we found it was easier ...

Hemi

yes, Hemi had an accident, gashed his foot and now he has a bucket over his head. He is definitely not happy at all! His foot has been glued up now, so that isn't a problem -at the moment-, but it is the bucket I worry about now! I don't think he'd be able to reach his food and water bowl =( has any...

Hello again My bird Hemi has recently started doing strange things to his reflection in our bathroom mirror. I say 'he' but the bird has still got some growing to do so its too early to tell. Hemi also does this when he doesn't want me near his toys, his cage, or MY girlfriend :D (yes! he loves her, and gets all defensive when I try to un-tangle him from her hair) So I could be wrong, but I strongly believe its a territorial thing also!

A few minutes ago I noticed Hemi appeared to be stuck on top of his cage. When i went over to him i noticed one of his small toes was wedged the bars between where the sides of the cage joins. He tried to bite me as i tried to help him and he launched himself off the cage only to be dangling in mid ...

he tends to leave the peas as a last resort occasionally :)
his colours are starting to become more pronounced and i can't wait till he is finished moulting

can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes for their first moult?

Birds outside

Yes Hemi's wing is clipped so if he tries to fly he doesn't get far at all. Also when he's on my finger etc, he doesn't actually even look to fly anywhere. He loves it outside though, especially in the bushes and trees. But I have to be very careful and watch him all the time in case he climbs too h...

I think I'm Having a BOY!

Well it has been a bit of a wait, but i think i may have an educated guess as to what sex my bird Hemi is - a boy! lately (last few weeks) Hemi has been doing a strange 'dance' towards his favorite bell. he pins his eyes, makes quiet calling sounds and appears to dry reach or vomit during the dance....

:| Hemi likes shiny things... even toys shaped like guns!

I had Hemi on my monitor next to a container of shiny objects. Next thing I know he's parading back and forth, threatening me with a keyring in the shape of a gun in his claw Please dont think of me as being an irresponsible bird owner... its only plastic. It just made me laugh, and I hope it makes ...

Thanks for starting this thread Baz, I'm actually learning quite a bit from it because my bird has been very vicious lately :/ he used to bite softly, then get harder and harder.. but now he's lunging at me and going really hard first off.. for no reason at all! :/ He steps up fine, no worries about...

a question about biting

Hello, My ringneck is such a sweet bird but he's also quite moody with his biting. 50% of the time he'll let me scratch him, pat him and like it, the other 50% of the time he attacks -not always- hard, but its more of a defensive sort of thing. He really hates being on the floor, and the pet shop i ...
