Pair's first clutch. One fertile egg, hatched baby, now dead

This was my pair's first clutch. They finally got it as far as mating and had one viable egg out of five. Mother sat well, dad attentive, baby hatched yesterday, dead today. I don't think they fed it. Is this a first clutch problem that will resolve itself or should I pull the next clutch of babies ...

Re: Adult male and female actions

Yes, the blue is much more aggressive than the green. Another indication of a female?

Re: Adult male and female actions

Thank you. I'm becoming more and more convinced I have a girl. Today she/he had her head back and was making those funny noises. I'm really disappointed because I was told they were a pair.

Adult male and female actions

Hi, I have a pair of irns. I read that the way you can tell a male from a female is the way they position their heads. Throwing it back is female, forward male. Is this true? Because the one I was told is male will throw its head back! He is suppose to be between two and three years old and I believ...

Re: Strange mouth and tongue behavior. Is this normal?

Thanks for the answer, although I really don't think that is what she is doing. She is over one year old now. She sticks out her tongue, I mean really far, and makes a weird little noise. She sometimes starts doing it when we are loving on her, but I've seen her do it when she is on her own. I'm thi...

Strange mouth and tongue behavior. Is this normal?

My one year old IRN will lick me then stick out its tongue and make a weird noise almost like it is trying to regurgitate. She/he (sex unknown) started this behavior about a month ago. She seems healthy otherwise. Very sweet and loving personality. There are baby cockatiels she runs with, could thei...

Re: Male chasing the female!

Thank you! If it continues I will. They seem calmer today. They are very entertaining birds. I bought them a new toy and a foraging tray and they are quite enamored with them. Very active and vocal!

Male chasing the female!

Hi, I have a breeding pair of Lutino IRNs and the female had laid a clutch of four eggs but they were infertile. I recently pulled the eggs and the nestbox to give her a rest. Since last night the male has been acting aggressive towards the female chasing her around. She holds her own, trust me! But...

New IRN owner. Have a Lutino breeding pair and a baby grey

Hi folks! I have had cockatiels up until now and first purchased a handfed baby grey IRN who is so cute and sweet. His name is Lucky. I enjoyed him so much that I purchased a Lutino breeding pair. Beautiful birds! The male has his ring, Clyde, and the female is four years old, Bonnie. I also purchas...
