Ants!!!!!!
I need help everyone! We just had a beautiful house built for us out in the country....unfortunatley it was built on and around hundreds of ant hills. We have only been in the home for 2 weeks and we have ants inside and they are very attracted to the birds cages and food. I have the food in airtigh...

Did I do the right thing?
Elliott was doing well flying. He was even flying from his cage to the middle of the room, turning around in the air and flying back to his cage. He really seemed to enjoy having his freedom, but he was constantly flying into the windows. I started keeping the blinds down and he still flew into the ...

Elliott is going through a pretty bad moult right now and I think he might be bleeding. He is not normally an overly affectionate bird but today he has been following me around and flying to me when I leave the room. So tonight, just before bed I sat with him and tried to pet him, which he normally ...

Feeding his toys???
Elliott has been regurgitating (sp?) his food and trying to feed his toys. It is pretty gross, but I heard that it is normal. Is this any indicator of his/her sex? I have not had him DNA sexed, as I am enjoying the guessing game! I still think boy!!

The first night went well. Elliott was very excited to see another bird...he was dancing around all anxious to come out of his cage! I have them both in the living room, just at opposite ends. Elliott was talking to him all night long....I could hear him even after we turned the lights out. He is pa...

We met Charlie today and he is so sweet. My 5 year old son was holding him and petting him under his wings and he loved it. So needless to say he is coming home with us! Might be getting a Severe Macaw
I am going to meet a Severe Macaw for adoption in my area tomorrow. His mom is in the navy and is going on deployment so she needs to find a new home for him. He is DNA sexed male and his name is Charlie. I am so excited. I wasn't planning on anymore birds until after my daughter is born, but this p...

Congrats!! Kiwi is a cute name!!! She will need some time to adjust to the new surroundings so don't be upset if she nips a little. It sounds like she is settling in nicely tho! Some people choose to cover the cage at night around 9-10pm and then uncover it after 10-11 hours. I personally don't do t...

Flying
Our vet recommended that we keep Elliott's wings clipped at first, but now that he is over a year old I want to let him fly. He hasnt had his wings clipped in some time and tries to fly, but he always flies into things. Today he flew into the wall and slid down it. I felt so bad. I really don't want...

My IRN is the first bird I have owned and I have had no problems with him. All birds have their own personality, so I can't guarantee that you and your bird will hit it off. If they have multiple birds available for adoption I would ask to spend time with each of them to see what their personality i...

We just discovered that Elliott hates the color pink! The only problem with that is I am having a little girl in November! Question about moulting and ring
Elliott is now 15 mos old. I have owned him since he was about 4 weeks old but he didnt come home until he was fully weaned last October. He has only had one real moult since he has been home and it wasn't even that bad. My Avian vet says that since he is an indoor bird he will not go through the no...

Peaches?
I was searching through the posts and couldn't really get a straight answer on peaches. Are they safe for IRNs? I know that it said that the core is not good, but what about the skin? I really want to give some of my peach to Elliott, but not if it will hurt him.

Thanks for the advice! I am a stay at home mom now, so Elliott always has company but I just thought he would enjoy the company of another bird as well. Thinking of getting a lovebird
I have always loved lovebirds and I have been thinking about getting one but I have a few concerns/questions. 1.) Do you think my IRN would get along with a smaller bird? 2.) Do you think the Lovebird would become attached to the IRN? 3.) Should I keep the cages in the same room or seperate rooms? 4...

Sneezing
I think my bird had a sneezing fit tonight and I am a little worried. He was standing by his food dish and he sneezed (well, they sounded like sneezes) at least 10 times, one right after another. Is that a sign that he could be sick? I am such a worrier!!

Clicking noise
Elliott makes this weird clicking noise with his/her beak. It almost sounds like he is chewing something but there is nothing in his mouth. What is this? Is it normal? He normally does it while he is sitting next to him mirror.

Elliott loves his toys but it is so hard to find "new" toys for him. They are all the same. He loves his birdie kong and mirrors and bells, but what are some other good toys for him that aren't just the blocks and ropes and what not?

I cannot get Elliott to bathe. He hates the spray bottle, I have a shallow bowl that I put out for him during play time and wants nothing to do with it. I have even taken a paper towel and dripped water onto him and he gets so mad at me. I do catch him washing up in his water dish but that is just h...
