Nope, they did not have any perches . It was him, another quaker and 4 tiels all sitting on walnut bedding alone! Anyways, I have no idea how old he is because he is not banded . I am just going by what the guy at the pet store told me and the fact that he has a new looking stubby tail. But for all ...

Quaker...
Took my new baby quaker to the vet yesterday. All is well! Only thing is, since the pet store didn't have him on any perches, he is a very clumsy little thing and stepping up frustrates him (it doesn't help that they cut too many of his feathers and cut them too short)! I've put the perches low in h...

Thank you ALL for your opinions! I have reported the pet store to the LA-SPCA and for the following reasons in my report they will be talking to the store owner Section 18-2. Cruelty to animals. It is unlawful for any person keeping an animal or fowl to fail to provide for that animal or fowl: (a) C...

Here is my main concern. This bird does not have enough room to TURN AROUND in his cage. I brought the conditions to the attention of the store owner about a week ago hoping maybe he would get on some employee to at least change the s*** ENCRUSTED food! Also, you can no longer tell that there is any...

NOT SURE IF THIS IS IN THE RIGHT AREA... I bought a baby quaker today. I will have to wait 3 weeks to see if Master Chief likes him/her because I'm quarantining... the pet store I bought him/her from was not my first choice. We will be going to the vet tomorrow. I just wanted to know if anyone could...

DNA SEXING
I was wondering about DNA sexing. Most sites I have seen want you to clip the birds toenail until it bleeds. Does this hurt? Will it be uncomfortable for the next few weeks? Will I make my baby afraid of a nail trim? I can't do blood feathers because we don't have any... might have some soon though ...

Always to me is that he does it every day. It's not constant but it's everyday. I took Donna's advice and checked out his feet even though I don't use cement or sand perches and I took him to the vet at my work for her to check for mites (we were due for a checkup anyways). He is all clear... I gues...

Bad Habit?
Master Chief always chews on his toe nails. I cut them as often as they need to be cut and I cut them as short as I can without clipping the quick or taking away his ability to hang on to suff. Is this just a bad habit or is there a reason? Do any of your birds do this?

My birds were never friendly towards eachother (IRN and tiel) and they never will be. Every they were out together it was always a race to see who could run and attack the other one first... my IRN doesn't even like his sister... he doesn't like any other birds actually, I let him choose his own fri...

Fortunately I work at a pet store and take my little guy with me on occasion. I am careful to stay away from the other animals when he is with me and I wash my hands sore, but it's worth the time! I also live close enough to my work to come home for my lunch. I've tried to spend time with him when I...

I keep mine in the living room as well, but he gets excited over alot of things, especially the new baby nephew. But I don't know how I would feel closing just him off from the rest of the house. If you have a buddy for him it might be a good idea to let them have their own space and then have a pla...

Stop the crying!
My little man "Master Chief" as he is known to the family is TERRIFIED of storms. He runs around in his cage and cries (just like he did when he was a baby and wanted me to feed him) and screams and throws food all over the place. I calm him as best as I can during the day but sometimes in...

How much is too much?

Is there something I can do?
My little guy is 6 months old. I bought him from a breeder at 6 weeks and handfed him for the next three. During that time he was the sweetest little thing. Now however is a different story. I don't think it's bluffing, he's just really territorial about his cage. He is fine when he is on his playgy...
