Gosh, Lauren... That's a hard lesson learnt... When I first came to Australia in 1983, I used to do just as I did in Denmark, and ended up with a rubbish bin full of maggots... I still have trouble eating rice... lol.. It took me a few years to learn that everything eatable had to be in non invasive...

Hi Lena Welcome to the forum... I have 2 IRNs, a green female, Paulie and a blue male, Toby. I'm originally from Denmark and now living in Australia... Came here with hubby and 3 kids in 1983.. Hubby got rehomed and the kids are now adults with their own children. My best friend, when I was a child ...

You don't need a license to keep the 'normal' cockatoos or Corellas... You need a lisence to keep a Major Mitchell, though, and also a Palm Cockatoo, even though it's no Australian... You also need a lisence (I think) or at least a movement advice to keep a lorikeet... You are required to notify the...

Even if the cockatoo was set free or escaped years ago, it would still retain some words, and I reckon if it's accepted into a flock, it should probably be allowed to stay there... There's nothing more beautiful than watching the birds in their natural environment... If the bird had recently got out...

Update on Paulie
I have now had Paulie for about 6 months... We haven't had any problems out of the ordinary. I coped with the biting by saying 'gentle' and not pull the hand away... I think that's what you call 'bluffing' - Paulie would lunge at my hand, and if I pulled my hand away she would go in for at bite, but...

Welcome back, Leo... Tango is beautiful, and I think he's a boy, too. I'm sure you both missed each other terribly... It sounds like he has put on a lot of weight, while you've been away... Most like because of lack of exercise... He'll be back in form in no time, now that you're back home. The fact...

Hi Lauren I'm sure clicker training will help... You just really need to teach them targeting, and from there you can teach a solid step up as well as teaching them a cue to go into their cages. Having the birds out all day, will leave the birds feeling this is 'their home'.. I always make sure my b...

A lot of birds are 'closet talkers' until they gain a bit of confidence... None of my ringnecks talk, but they are only young (about 6 months old). My quaker talks a bit - like whatcha doing, hello Shrekie.. Cory, my Corella, talks a lot, repeats everything I say... the latest is: It's allright... S...

I most certainly wouldn't wait for an online community to tell you what's wrong... If I was worried of my birds doing that, they would go straight to the doctor (Vet).. I expect they are both IRN's.. Are they male and female living together? If so, they may be reguritating - It's a bonding thing for...

Hi Alana So sorry to hear about Cookie... Hope you find him safe and well. Have you contacted the RSPCA? A lot of people will call them to let them know they have found a tame bird. That's what happened with Cory, my Corella. When Cory flew away I was as devastated as you, and I did all the things r...

Big shock this morning
Tessa, my GSD, always sleeps in my bedroom, and goes out to say hello to the birds in the morning, when I open the door... This morning she went out, while I went to the loo... I heard screaming... and then desperate screaming... I raced out with my pants around my ankles, and there was Tessa with T...

Hi Kelly Welcome to you and Maizy... The fact that she'll come to the front of the cage to get treats from you suggests that she'll tame down really quick... Birds mostly bite out of fear, but of course IRNs sometimes bites just for the sake of it. I always say, these guys bite first and ask questio...

Paulie and Toby in same cage
I've had Paulie and Toby next to one another for a while now, and 2 days ago I decided to put them in the same cage, Toby's cage, since Paulie is the dominant of the 2 - I suppose because she's female They seemed to have a problem with bathing. Paulie simply kept bathing, so Toby couldn't get in... ...

I'm sorry, but I hate calling a bird 'IT'... If 'IT' is walking around in the loungeroom with you asleep, surely 'IT' must have a name... Hi Jay I was in no way offended... I obviously offended you by making the suggestion to take to bird to the vet... In fact, I offend a lot of people on a frequent basis, espesically in forums, such a this... I find it hard to read a large block of text. Maybe I can blame it on bad eyesight, old age ...
