Returned to the site with a new IRN and Alexandrine
Hello I haven't been on this site for a while since the death of one of my ringnecks, Percy, but I was recently given a new baby ringneck and just got an alexandrine yesterday. They have both been handraised and were obviously bonded with their previous owners, so I am having trouble getting them to...

Thanks for your posts. The birds are fine and vet checked. The nurofen tablets are covered in a sugar coating and that was all that was missing. I do look after the birds, keep them locked up and medication away. My parter was home - thats why they were out, and we don't know where the nurofen table...

My bird ate some nurofen
One of my IRNs may have eaten some nurofen. I woke up to find it with the pack in its claw and one tablet on the couch with the end missing. I can't find any info on the net about effects on birds. I overloaded it with water in the shower so it doesn't dehydrate. Any other thoughts on what to do? It...

As far as I know Percy is Female and about 18 mths old. She does the head back, clucking thing for a pat - constantly!!! I think I will take her home each night Lauren. The school is alarmed so I am not worried about theft, but if there was a fire or somehow a snake I would be devastated. Plus I bet...

Percy is going to school
I am a prep teacher and the class decided to get a pet, and chose a bird. I had all of the accessories and cage already and all I needed was the bird. After lots of searching around here for a hand raised bird with no luck I realised I could take one of my own. Which works out better for me, because...

Mackay Flood
Not sure if anyone else does, but I live in Mackay, QLD and we have just had a flood. My birds were fine, they were nice and dry inside and spent most of the day sleeping. Here are some pics from my place. The bird cage you can see in one pic is a spare - I didn't have the birds outside. http://i186...

I went out with my fiance to a nice restaurant last night and came home to find my laptop ruined, and two ringnecks sitting on it, both on one foot and holding a keyboard key it the other, chewing it! They chewed off most of the keys, then the little white bits that hold them on, and the rubber piec...

New puppy meeting the birds
I got a mini dachshund puppy called chip and he has been getting used to living with the birds. He goes under their cage and eats the scraps they throw down. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x78/barry_4703/P1010787.jpg Percy is happy to play around on the floor with him. Chip chases Percy and when...

This is Chip, my new mini dachie. He is very cute and playful. So far he has been good with the IRN's. I lock them in their cage when I am not in the room, and closely supervise when they are out, but so far so good. They are not really interested in each other. I have got Chip used to flapping wing...

Does anyone know where to buy rescue remedy in Australia, particularly Brisbane? Would it be at a pet food store or health food. The web site doesn't list stockists.

I think I got very lucky with Petey. I had never owned a bird and didn't even know about hand raising. I just went and picked him out from a breeder for $25. Probably depends on where you live and the climate. I would worry about snakes here, but I choose to keep mine in my lounge room, becuase I spend most of my time at home in that room, and there is plenty of space for their big cages. I also choose not to lock mine up, so the lounge is safe and escap...

IRN and a dachshund?
I am getting a miniature dachshund and wondering if anyone has introduced a dachshund to their IRN's. I beleive they were originally bred to be a hunting animal so I guess he will be no good around birds. I went yesterday to see the puppy and at 4 weeks they are the same size as an IRN My IRN's roam...

Mine go crazy for scissors! They are one of the only things Percy will leave me alone for. If I want him to go back to his cage I just take some scissors there. Only thing is they are so very dangerous, and i have to take them straight away. It is impossible to wrap pressies, sew or cut things here.

How long does it take for an IRN to regrow flight and tail feathers? It has been 5 months they havent grown back yet. Also one wing looks terrible.
