Here we have a Zoo with a Lorikeet flight. You can feed them too...get a little cup of nectar so they will perch on your hand. Best experience ever! Loved seeing those little guys crowd up toeat.

Zoos are great...so long as they are the 'good ones' :D

Recovery time is never easy. Atleast you have plenty of time to catch up on the boards and post about your birds I suppose... Doesn't help I have like 30 of them to read... One of these days I will get some pictures up myself of Prinny, since it's been so long. But she looks so scruffy right now......

Can agree with you there Mikaela...that is bordering on OCD there. I live with parrots...I accept the mess...am not anal about it. Cages get changed daily...in the evenings...

Can't imagine taking a part all the cages I have daily :shock:

*giggle* Do not get an Alexandrine...I swear they make more noise that a macaw sometimes! As mentioned...don't give the bird any attention whatsoever...they are very smart and will catch on that 'Hey...I scream...I get attention.' They do NOT understand the difference between 'bad' attention and 'go...

Chaning the cage daily is easy...tearing down daily, not so. I try to get a good cage cleaning done once a week, where it all gets a baking soda/vinegar scrub...

Looks like a great cage to me...the set up is good. Just watch that open top...many a bird has gotten caught because the perch fell out. Keep an eye on it...most of us who have open top cages don't bother using the 'top'...waaay too bad things can happen :shock:

Prinny does it too...think she is just working herself out...flaps really hard but doesn't let go of the branch...just getting those muscles of hers working. Though when she does it, all the squawking she does starts everyone else up :roll:

Best not to house more than one bird together unless you plan to have a huge avairy where they can escape the 'bullies'

Different people have different views though...some have housed more than one just fine...others, not so good...best not risk it though! :shock:

Nope...Kyria your Kiely is a split to pied girl...

And it sounds like yours is too Lauren...a 'normal' gray teil will have no flecks of yellow or off color feathers anywhere on their head or bodies...if they have those they are split to pied and will throw pied/pearled babies :D

Eek! What a scare...for you and Mikaela...honestly we need to remember that our IRNs are little birds that can get lift in the slightest of winds.

Be careful if you take your fid outside...no matter the size. They ARE built to fly...feathers clipped or not...

Grinding noises are great! They are a contented sound.

As for talking or other noise making...be patient. Sometimes it takes them a bit to get settled and start making a racket. Soon you will be happy when they shut up!

*shudders* They are especially noisey right now. Moulting and the end of breeding season (atleast here) Ringies can be relentless in the squawking...and I hate to tell you this but that's how they will be. I LOVE my ekkies...the boys are so very sweet and loving.

My Mikey is a trusting soul. He will let me do anything to him. I highly recommend an ekkie to anyone, so long as they can provide them the diet they require

Sunflower seeds are ok as a treat...or a little part of a regular diet. They are very high in fat...
