update on Bandit
Hi all I thought I would update you all on my IRN Bandit, who was handraised in a prison and initially had affection only for my husband. We got him about 6 months ago. Recently, after a lot of persistence he has started to show affection for me, and has started nuzzling and chirping with me the way...

Re: South African bird owners
Ellie I love your new profile picture. Bandit is going really well! He took a while to bond with me, and is still not as bonded to me as my husband, but it is much better, and we're on a good track! He's an absolute delight, very sweet, but fairly demanding. We're planning to take him back to visit ...

Re: I just got an IRN - a few general questions :)
I was advised by my breeder to keep seeds as a treat - a few daily at most as apparently its heavy on their kidneys and shortens their life by up to five or ten years if they eat mainly seeds. My IRN LOVES grapes. Its quite remarkable, he will throw his other fruit all over the cage looking for grap...

Re: Help me stay engaged :D - IRN Screaming issues
My sympathies! I can't advise, my IRN is still young, but I do hope you find a solution> sounds like you really love her! I have never heard of showering with a bird, does she enjoy it? is she able to grip onto your skin, doesnt it hurt? My bandit is not good at sitting on shoulders!

South African bird owners
Hi everyone! I thought I would check out if there's anyone else from South Africa on here? I see lots of Australians! I am from Cape Town, got Bandit a month ago from Pollsmors bird project, was a great decision as he's been a wonderful additoon- with its challenges - but more rewards! Is there anyo...

Re: Our bird doesnt like me
Thanks Ellie.I read some of your previous posts that have been very helpful too. So far, he will interact with me when treats are involved, so we're starting there :) I have changed my attitude a bit, and will continue to work patiently with him. I am grateful he has bonded with at least one of us, ...

Re: Hello new to forum and new IRN owner
We are currently working with our 6 month old who we"ve had for about 6 weeks. Bandit's personality really only became clear after about 3 weeks, it took a while for our little one to settle in. After about 3 weeks something clicked and suddenly there was a strong bond with my husband. Me and B...

Our bird is greenish grey - does this colouration have a name? we'd like to breed in the future and would be nice to know what we're dealing with. unable to post pics yet.

Our bird doesnt like me
I would love some tips - have had a baby IRN (currenly 5 and half months) for 1 month. He was hand reared by a man. He was beautiful and sweet when we got him, but as he has become comfortable his affection is aimed exclusively at my husband, he is so sweet, he nuzzles and coos into his neck, but re...

Re: Getting IRN on May 16.
I have recently acquired an IRN- 5 months - hand reared - and I would recommend seeing what he likes when he's home before buying too much i the way of toys etc. Our little guy, Bandit, struggled with the small parrt toys we bought, and has done much better with things made for cockatiels. just a th...

Re: Introcing myself and new IRN
Hi Ellie Sure - I dont know too any of the details, but basically the project aims to utilise the therapeutic effects of animal interaction and selected prisoners are given the opportunity to hand rear birds, with training of course. Not a lot of prionsoners do it, i think its a privilege. The progr...

Introcing myself and new IRN
Hi all. I just want to introduce myself. My husband and I I have recently acquired a beautiful 5 month old IRN, handreared in the local prisons bird project. He has had a lot of attention in his short life. We have only had him 3 days and he seems to be settling in, eating well, quietly spending tim...
