Re: 1st time IRN owner- need help plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently hand feeding a baby IRN who is very tame and sweet...but even Rikku (the baby) tries to get out of the container we are using until we move to the cage. I went to get Rikku for feeding time and she/he was sitting on top of the receiving blanket covering the bin. I leave a small sectio...

Re: Are Indian ring necks good for a family young kids??

We just got a baby IRN six days ago. Rikku is about a month old and we are hand feeding. I have a two year old grandson who has held Rikku with no problems. A big part of how well a bird will be with children is how well they are socialized with young children. We decided to hand feed for this reaso...

Re: baby birds not eating help please

At 7 weeks shouldn't they be eating more solids and less formula? Our Rikku is a month old now and is already playing with millet and seeds and has actually eaten a few here and there while manipulating them. Maybe it's just time to offer more variety of solids.

Re: Can all IRN'S talk?

I'm curious if there are certain words IRN's are unable to say. I've tried searching the net for information about this, but I've come up empty. I want to name my bird Emerson (after Ralph Waldo Emerson), but i don't know if that's a word he will be able to say..? Is there a resource/list out there...

Re: Can all IRN'S talk?

I am guessing (and I don't know for sure on this) that it would be better to talk to the fiddo while socializing than to just talk around him or her. I have also read that some IRNs don't talk until a year or older and others might not talk at all. Everything seems to point towards good and consiste...

Re: why is it?

I would guess that most of the parrots (all varieties) featured in videos doing tricks and who are extremely tame were hand raised by their owners. That bond that develops when you hand feed your fiddo is strong. I am glad that I learned this many years ago when I bought a breeding pair of cockatiel...

Re: my bird wont come out of its cage

He may just prefer to come out of his cage on his own. I rescued a pair of cockatiels where they would freak out if you stuck your hand in the cage to try to get them to step up but if you left the door open they would come out and step up from the top of the cage. Your little one sounds very sweet,...

Re: my bird wont come out of its cage

I think I also read a post where your new IRN also isn't making any noise. All animals can sort of sense when their people are stressed and if I am correct that you also posted about your bird's silence I am wondering if maybe the little guy is at least partly responding to your stress and worry abo...

Re: Getting IRN on May 16.

I am not sure which seed I got since it came out of the bin in the store, lol. I will have to look when I go back in to see. I don't know anything about heated perches, so I will defer to someone else on that. Foraging toys are supposed to be good, too. Sorry it took me a bit longer to respond this ...

Re: Getting IRN on May 16.

You're welcome! I doubt you will need a lamp if the little guy will already be weaned as long as it's not really cold. I was told to have millet and seed and to offer fruits and vegetables and have heard much talk of pellets. There are lists of foods that are dangerous, so make sure to check into th...

Re: Getting IRN on May 16.

Based on all the research I've done (got our four week old baby yesterday!) it really depends on the age of your IRN as far as what you will need. The breeder I got Rikku from does not use a brooder or any lights. He uses a heating pad on low under a plastic storage bin, pine bedding and a baby rece...

Re: Hand-Feeding and Weaning

We got a baby yesterday and are hand feeding. The breeder insisted that I use a syringe. In the past I used a spoon and had no problems. I am doing fine with a syringe but if I'm being honest I really don't like that method. I love the idea of the cups and think I might try that.

Hi, I am Shannon and live in Florida

I found this site when looking up information about Indian Ringnecks and decided to join. We are getting my twelve year old daughter her first bird and will be getting an IRN baby in about a week once he or she is about three weeks old. I hand raised a cockatiel baby very successfully from a few day...
