I've heard IRNs with lots of different clarity levels in thier talking. Busey says somethings REALLY clear, but other things sound kinda jumbled. Some IRNs will only be able to be understood by their owners. I think just keep on talking to him and he'll get better at it. When Busey learned to say &q...

The cutest IRN picture EVER!
Okay everyone. I'm an illustrator on a stock site and sometimes I search the other stuff on the site. Look what I found yesterday! http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1052193/2/istockphoto_1052193_rose_ringed_parakeet_nestlings.jpg OMG! SOOOOOOO CUUUUUTE!!! Ringnecks like shiny things. Busey kisses/talks to mirrors, the screws in his playstand, the window - anything shiny and reflective. A few times a day he'll get up in the mirror and do his "dance" for it. I honestly think that they're just very vain birds! As long as your birdie still gets plenty of...

I don't mean to sound rude, but what is a "decent size cage"? You stated that you can pick it up, which lends me to believe it may be too small. Busey's cage is 4x3 and I can't imagine ever picking it up to get him to fly into it! IRNs really need a cage that's at least 3 foot by 2 foot. Bare minimu...

I agree with the ignoring thing. Busey likes to get up next to me and yell for my attention. When he does it I completely ignore him. As soon as he makes a nice noise I lavish him with attention. So... now he's learned that if a few yells don't work to remember to say "pretty bird" or laugh at me an...

Busey is now the proud owner of a microchip!
He had his annual checkup today and the vet said he's sexier than ever!
(I love my vet!)
He weighs 110 grams and the vet says he's the picture of perfect health.
So, in case anyone was wondering - YES IRNs can be microchipped!

So... anyone have THIS problem? Busey likes to bite. And it's not that annoyed nip you get sometimes when you ask him to step up and he doesn't want to, it's more like an EATING bite. He'll just fly up and walk up to my arm and lick it and then bite it. Like it's the best food in the world. At first...

My vet told me that it's okay for ringnecks to eat SOME seed. They are rather active birds and it doesn't tend to cause obesity in them as much as in other species. They just should be on a pellet diet as a staple and get plenty of dark green, orange and yellow vegetables. Sweet potatoes, chard, mus...

I also don't want him to think it's another bir that he can never actually reach. Anyone have any advice on the va...

Nope - the seed is NOT enough! (And a lot of pet stores have NO clue about parrot diets!) Seed is very fatty, and while IRNs can have seed in their diets, it should not be ONLY seed!
