We just lost our Posey
Poor sweet Posey. As much as I shouldn't say it, of all our birds she was my favorite. She was my special little gal. :( We are going to miss her dearly. It's still very raw so I can't go into details but we do have to make a decision about her. I want to get a very nice urn for her but as far as bi...

Thanks so much for the reply!! It really does help. Going over the quotes you made from my post I noticed that I might have been a little confusing in my original post. I wasn't necessarily saying that the fact that the birds were hand fed or not was the cause of their personalities. I was just tryi...

Hand Feeding babies
Hi all. I've been curious about something for a long time and want to get as many opinions as I can. When it comes to hand rearing chicks, I feel a bit confused. This goes for all types of birds, not just IRNs. People always say that hand feeding chicks helps them to be more tame in the future. They...

I haven't posted here in a while but I do lurk from time to time. I just wanted to say that I completely admire your respect for your birds. Too many people are either too stubborn or don't care enough about their birds to put them first and make the decisions that best suit them. As pet owners, reg...

Flight Suit
Hi all! I just have a quick question: Where is the best place to get a flight suit for my girl, Posey? I've got one for one of the bigger girls (Ruby the ekkie) but I don't have one to fit Posey (the IRN). I was handling her the other day and the thought crossed my mind that she just might let me do...

Just my experience: I clip bird wings at the pet hospital where I am a veterinary technician. We only see cats and dogs but since I am familiar with birds and know how to do the grooming aspect of it, the vet lets me see bird patients for wing clips and nail trims (I will not do beaks; I know how to...

OMG they are so cute! It was me that ask if it only were three ekkies Ha, that's cool! So, I suppose there are now four?! That Ruby is my baby!! We've had about a year and a half now and just adore her; well, I do anyway. My husband could take or leave her; she attacks him whenever he is near me......

Our girls: Ekkie, LCA, IRN, and 'tiel. Dialup beware
Hi all. I know I've posted these pics before but I just read another post here of someone wondering if there were only three ekkie's on this board. Someone metioned that "someone who joined a while ago" had one, so I'm not sure if that was me or not. So, here are some repeat pics. Ruby is our Solomo...

Hi all. I know I don't post here very often but I do lurk and try to keep up; although y'all are quite active and it gets difficult at times. Just wanted to update y'all that Posey (our IRN) has turned out to be a lovely little girl. She's quite happy and is quite tame now, after almost a year of wo...

She's is still doing this and now, once she's out of her cage, I can hold her and pet her without making the noises. I was so happy when she first did this that I stood there and scratched her thro...

What's up with this??
We've had our little Posey since April of '05. We got her after she had been moved to several different homes of different people trying to make a breeder out of her. When she was unsuccessful, no one seemed to want this little girl any more. So, we ended up with her. She was wild as a buck when we ...

I have three birds, one albino IRN, a cockatiel and Ruby the Eclectus. Now, Ruby has a history (as do many ekkies) for toe tapping and wing flipping; a lot of the time it is a reaction to certain foods; her's however is a reaction to smells and perfumes. How much of a problem is this with IRNs? I've...

Yes, we do leave the eggs in until she gets bored with them. The problem with Paisley is that this never seems to happen. She will get bored with some but just lay more right away, before we even remove them. She will push away the ones that she is bored with, lay more, and sit on those. I get paran...

Thanks so much. It's good to get another opinion about the egg laying. Our tiel girl has been through everything and we've modified everything imaginable to get her to stop laying; I lost count when she made it to 100 eggs being laid and that was at least six months ago. She just goes constantly. I ...

She's finally coming around!! :)
My Posey is finally starting to come around. We got her back in April, where she was an attempted breeder bird. Because the breeding was never successful, the previous owners/breeders decided to get rid of her...so she was ours. I've been working with her so much since we got her. Finally, I am able...

Posey's First Date with the Shower!
Hiya! We've had Posey since the end of April and she's still pretty wild. She doesn't tolerate a lot of handling but she's getting better. This morning was the first time I took her into the shower with me. I usually take Ruby (the ekkie) but thought I'd give Posey a try. And while she never really ...

How well do your IRNs get along with other birds? Just curious. I have an albino IRN, a cockatiel, and an eclectus. The two that interacted were the tiel and the IRN. Well, it didn't go as well as I had though. Posey (IRN) is definately more bossy than I thought! I thought Paisley (the tiel) would b...

Hello. I just wanted to post for anyone who might live near here that there are two IRN's at a local pet store. Around here, IRNs are not at all popular, and most people have never heard of them. IRN's Stubborn??
Hello there. I posted a couple of weeks ago about Posey, our new Indian Ringneck. I know she's only been here almost two weeks but she seems to be the most difficult breed I've had to try to tame. I understand that she's very scared still and very flighty and I can't blame her. This is her forth hom...

Hello Tam. I am new to this board and to ringnecks as well. But not to birds in general. I know you said you are on a tight budget but what I would do is go ahead and take the bird to an avian vet. Not only is it always a good idea to have a new bird checked out but with everything you are describin...

Thanks so much for the welcome. So I guess there isn't anything weird about these guys as far as diet goes? That's good. This is my first time on this board. I have loved these birds for many years. Two of my favorite birds are eclectus and Indian Ringnecks. Well, we got our Eclectus last thanksgiving. Now we have our Ringneck. It was unplanned and spur of the moment, which I know isn't advisable. But we had to have h...
