yeh, free flying doesn't have to be dangerous. If you have a spare bedroom, close the door and let your IRN fly.
I'm going to have mine fly free in my bedroom around his cage, thats it.

When I first got Ajendra his feathers were clipped so badly, all of the primaries were clipped. He'd fall and bash into the floor. Now, its been 3 months, most primaries are back and he can't fly yet. I want him to keep his feathers, he has stopped getting angry at him flying 'disability' and is hap...

We are a small Australian island called Tasmania and we are mostly rainforest and you can get to the top from the bottom of the state in 3 1/2 h...

They are fodder moths. They get into any type of bird foods and so stores must be careful how they store stock. I had these in my rat seed. Some stores will spray something on the bags of food to keep the moths away but don't buy it, you don't know if the spray can harm your birds. I have kept all m...

i disagree as well my bird gets a chicken bone whenever we eat chicken. they eat the marrow- try it! he's not vegetarian but omnivorous. like most wild birds are. oh and i have to say, pellets aren't natural foods for birds!!! i feed pellets as part of mine's diet. i mostly feed a legume and wholegr...

He also has a couple of red toys which he favors. Just lately he has a thing for key rings and I bought a cheap packet of d...

don't panic. my bird is moulting and he gets down feathers stuck on his beak when he is grooming. when i got him he was nervous and would seem to get angry at his back and ruffle his head through his feathers. but he hasn't pulled any of the coloured ones out. it was just a nervous gesture. i got so...

congrats. IRN's are unlike other birds in that most of them will not want physical petting, but just to sit on you. Your story is similar to mine. Especially about my bird's slight ring and displaying (i think mine is a boy too). It will certainly help if you get his wings clipped to start off. Afte...

i go by this; they are omnivores like us so they eat everything we do (except junk foods, coffee, too much dairy etc). And so i give them all human foods (vegetarian and some chicken bones occasionally). And their pellets. I don't think in this day and age seed or pellets are a huge dietary requirem...

Looks small from the birds on the cage. However we really do spoil our birds. Until researching what the US recommends for their small parrots, I thought a medium sized cage (70cm high and 40 cm square) was adequate for a handreared bird. We should look at cages as a house. You need the kitchen and ...

My Ajendra is my alarm clock. He goes to bed at 5.30 (its Winter in Australia- almost Spring) and wakes pretty late at 9.00. I'm a Uni student so I naturally sleep in most days. Don't want to clip wings anymore
My house is pretty safe and I can close all doors. I want my IRN to have his wings back but am wanting to hear from people who have IRN's that have their wings complete. Do your birds fly crazily around or are content to perch mostly and fly sometimes???? If he was like he is now but could fly itd b...

Well i would definitely get his wings clipped more because if he can fly around the house then they must'nt be clipped enough. Clipped wings done correctly let the bird glide down onto the floor so they don't damage their breast bone from a fall. They shouldn't be able to actually fly very far! I k...

The only thing i can think is its the start of a yeast infection if he turns ill (throwing up/waxy stuff in mouth etc). Right now he's healthy. Or slight ware and tear from possible landings/moving about the cage wires. I can't imaging anything is wrong as he eats everything just fine and looks heal...

he is a green IRN, he is eating organic pellets, seed, all fruits and vegetables, normal droppings, is between 6-9 months old, clear eyes and nares, clean vent and feathering. He acts normal.
