It never ceases to amaze me. These birds have a brain the size of a lima bean, yet they are so intelligent.
I guess they have 100 million years of evolution behind them. That must count for something.

My IRN was a wild bird that I found, 5 years ago. I wouldn't trade her for anything. She isn't real cuddly but she is a great companion, on her terms. These birds are so intelligent, it is incredible. If you are lucky enough to get a bird that is already tame, that's great. I tamed Pretty Girl mysel...

Lettuce just gives them diarhea, if fed too much. Spinach, mustard greens, broccoli leaves are better and have vitamin A. Raw veggies: mine loves raw corn on the cob; cabbage, spinach; broccoli; carrots; sweet potato or yams; pumpkin or similar squash. All good source of vitamin A. Cooked: steamed soybean (edamame) has lots of protein and they love it. Cooked rice or pasta, also a treat. Fruit: apples, mango, papaya, g...

Welcome to Ringnecks. Doisy looks just like my Pretty Girl, who has lived with me for five years. They are endlessly amusing and clever birds. The only downside is the painful bite, which is unavoidable once in a while, as they get quite tempermental, especially the females. But just as quickly they...

GORGEOUS! What a fantastic color. Looks like you are already well on the way to taming your birds - it's easier when you hand raise them yourself. The most important thing is FOOD and nutrition, especially when they are growing. Have lots of variety early on, so they get used to eating the right stu...

Yes, they do like to get into everything. I try not to keep anything toxic around, and use nontoxic cleaning products. I've heard about some kind of detoxifying clay in the wild, but how to get it? PLEASE HELP, something is wrong with my IRN
My IRN, Pretty Girl, has not been herself for the last few days. She was coming down off a long moult, and looked rather scraggly. She was not her normal active, noisy self. So I took her to the vet. The vet examined her, said she didn't outwardly seem sick, but she gave her injections of calcium an...

With PeeGee, happy/content is standing on one foot; talking to herself; grooming (she preens her feathers, cleaning every single tail feather from end to end, cleaning her feet - every toe, every claw). I think if your IRN bonds with you, you will have a wonderful companion. The bird must decide on its own that you are its friend. vaccuum/bath thing
I thought my bird was the only one who did that. For some reason, when I use the dust-buster (hand vac) to clean around her cage, that's the signal for her to take a bath.
