Re: moody female - but it's not breeding season
I'm sorry, i shouldn't expect you to understand but it's easy to just assume everybody knows what you're talking about sometimes! The issue i was experiencing had nothing to do with entertainment within the cage. I realise you aren't to know this but i really think you shouldn't just speculate blind...

Not at all Ash. If she is clipped and wants to leave my side she will make it clear, and move. I don't force her to sit with me - i don't force her to do anything. She is flighted right now and sitting on my arm preening and beak clicking right now as i type. I was simply saying she is just a much c...

Hi Ash, No it's not a recurring or often problem for us. Usually if she does it's because Lorikeets are playing outside in the trees, sometimes if there's new people in the house, sometimes she's demanding my attention and i won't indulge her. Oh, one other thing too.
Did i read you live in a basement? Does it have windows? Make sure your bird gets plenty of natural light and some sun everyday.
This can have a huge impact on behaviour!

Re: My IRN likes to bite me
Birds are very switched on to body language. You can't blame a bird for biting you if you don't see the signs - "he's had enough scratches" for example. This only comes with experience and trial and error, expect a few bites along the way. Sometimes though, especially as you're not the ini...

Re: moody female - but it's not breeding season
InTheAir, not so! My female is an almost completely different personality between clipped/flighted. When flighted, she is more aggressive, less interested in interaction (seems to prefer sitting ontop her cage doing nothing to interacting), very disobedient (refusing to return to cage etc and flying...

Behaviour i just can't figure out
Hey all, So those of you who've been around for a while might know i've sure had my share of ups and downs with my bird. Things have for the most part settled down, i had her clipped and have re-evaluated my behaviour with her and have had some positive results. For the most part she's a pretty happ...

The change has been remarkeable! Not 100%, she still can be a little hassle to go back to her cage (havent clipped yet) but she really is almost back to her usual sweet self! Here's a shot i snuck in thisafternoon before she went to bed... :) http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/mattsisuzu/Photoon2...

Okay, you won't believe this... After re-reading your post from last year Ellie, last night i gave Sammy's cage a complete overhaul. Re: Agressive ringneck girl
I can totally feel your pain. Since 8 weeks old my bird has (mostly) been the sweetest little thing. Even bluffing was quickly solved by isolating her after a hard bite and training. She's now about a year and a half and the last three or so weeks has just totally flipped out. She won't spend barely...

This sounds very similar to my bird.
She's learned "Whatchya doin," her first words infact (allbeit the whatchya part is a little rough)
But she hasn't seemed to learn anymore and she rarely says it...
I try and reward her when she does but it's so hard to catch it!
Good luck!

Okay guys, this might be a bit of a saga... I feel i'm losing some control with Sammy. A little background, she (non DNA'd) is about 15 months old and has been a pretty model parrot really. Re: how do I get my ringneck to let me touch him
With my bird, when she was bluffing/biting i first had to learn what the bite meant. A parrot only has one way to tell you to back off if you don't know their body language and that's to bite you. I worked on the principal that if the bite was for no reason, and just out of pure bluffing i would giv...

So my ringneck is just about a year old this December (i've had her since February). Our relationship grew quickly and things have been pretty great for 6-7 months etc.. I would probably ask a Vet that one, sounds like it could lead to some nasty complications if it is bad for their sight. My bird is obsessed (like, absolutely fixated) on any remote controls.
