Re: Very discouraged...my 10 month old IRN attacking me only
I was curious if there are some birds who simply do not like to be handled, as well. I can deal with that so long as she doesn't attack me anymore.

Re: Very discouraged...my 10 month old IRN attacking me only
Emerson is a little over a year old and has been exhibiting this behavior for a little while now. She comes in and out of her cage on her own and I put her food in her cage while she's in there. This happens in the morning before I go to work and she gets a little protein from the table (occasionall...

She is on a very balanced diet right now that is vet reccommended. Curious if this deficiency could be due to her time at the breeder and not with me? Will post a pic when I'm able.

Grey ends on feathers
Hi All, my little IRN Emerson is 9 months now and transitioning well from her time with the breeder into our new home. I have noticed that the ends of her feathers have grey tips on them. She is a turquoise baby, so these grey tips make her look kind of drab. I'm thinking it's due to a deficiency in...

Also, because Emerson came from a bird breeder, we found out she adores marnie on YouTube. If you search for marnie parrot, you should get a bunch of videos. The bird sounds in the background relaxed her a great deal.

We're doing clicker training. When it's time to come out of her cage we say, "let's go play." She steps onto my hand and I click the clicker, then lots of praise. It's only been a little over a week, but she's doing well. No tricks, though. She discovered her toys today, though. Step in th...

Emerson will generally stay on her play top on the top of her cage, but she does occasionally get adventurous. If she's not sure of something, she will look for a way to "get out." I just spend time talking to her and petting her wings. She's getting much better at stepping up and letting ...

I'm glad yours are warming up. Emerson had a shorter flight from Texas to Wisconsin, but she was clearly ready to leave her crate when we picked her up! My Emerson is 3 months. I work with her a couple of hours a day, sharing food, teaching her step up, and getting her used to my hands being close to her. It's been steadily progressing. Just because the bird eats out of your hand doesn't mean it trusts you, or so I've been told. It just takes time a...

I've heard that reacting to your bird in any way when it bites you will be seen as attention by your bird. You should never raise your voice or "tap" your bird, and chaining the bird up just sounds cruel. Perhaps a forum expert could better help you with this problem. :/

Some birds talk nonstop and pick up words quickly, others might never talk at all. I know a few people who didn't work with thier birds at all, but the bird picked up words from thier conversations. My little girl isn't talking yet, but if she never says a word her companionship will be enough. ;)

Emerson will already be weaned by the time I get him (the breeder is doing that right now). Not sure on an exact age, but keeping the perches low is a good tip (one I wouldn't have thought of!) and the cage we have for him does have smaller bars.
