Re: aggessive female

Its more common then people think, I have 2 pair i have to seperate after they have mated the females do fine and prefer to raise the babies on their own without help from the male. Just another twist in the breeding world :?

Re: Need Help... Anti-Social Behavior, Biting, general quest

To start if you want to tame them into pets give them their own cages. Take the gloves and the oven mitts off this only freaks them out more. This tamming is going to take time and patents don't rush them, it doesn't happen over night. :)

If you are breeding these birds don't tame them. If you want to makes pets out of them seperate them. It's very difficult to have it both ways. Donna :)

I think their both going through a molt, sometimes they molt so hard they do lose their tail feathers we call that a duck butt :) your baby is probably going through its first molt, if it isn't pulling the feathers out I wouldn't be too worried.

They will lose their tail feathers during a hard molt. Cage bars should be 1/2" to an inch no bigger.

You may have African ringnecks they are smaller then your indians. The one that you say does not stand straight may be ill or injured have it vet checked asap. As for the one tugging and nipping at the other one, a female will do that to get the male to mount her.

chipping of the beak is quite normal it's like our finger nails, the ditch in the beak could be from him rubbing the cage bars. Anything that is done to the beak should only be done by a vet. I really don't think you have anything to worry about just yet.

Just give her more time. some birds take months to get comfortable with new surroundings, your doing the right thing by letting her come out on her own to explore.

Hard to say if they'll ever get along and breed with each other, females are usually the dominate ones untill breeding season. If your going to leave them together watch them closely she could hurt him or he could go hungry if shes not letting him eat.

Quakers and ringnecks are not a bird for you then. They can bite at any given time not just going through a stage. All birds bite, bigger the bird harder the bite.

Re: Letting Milo fly around the house?

Im a big fan of wing clipping but do both, just one wing clip puts them off balance. keep your training sessions to about 10 minutes 4 times a day. you've heard the saying fight or flight, it will be much harder (not impossiable) to train a full flighted bird.

Hope this helps :)

Not all birds you pair together are going to bond together. depends on the ages of the birds also. As for the colors they don't always like their own color, if that was the case we would'nt have all the color mutations that we have.Sorry about the slow response  Donna

Galvanized and zink coatings are not good for any birds that tend to chew on them.

Birds molt their feathers all year around but the hard molts are usually before and after breeding season and last 3 to 5 weeks depending on how hard the molt is.

Hi Leo

I can tell you there is nothing wrong with the red feathers in your birds head in most cases they will molt out or fade as the bird gets older. It's nature it happens! Don't worry your bird is probably healthier then most of them.
