perch question
I would like to get a perch for my IRN that will keep her nails trimmed. Does anybody use or recommend these. This is the one I'm thinking of: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=15079&cmpid=04cseYY&ref=6193&subref=AA&cmpid=PLA_G_6193&gclid=Cj0KEQjw6LXIB...

Do IRNs mourn?
I have a female blue IRN of unknown age. She has been in the same room with my elderly peach faced lovebird George. George was 16. George passed away this morning. I've only had the IRN since about August - she was a rescue which is why I don't know how old she is. She layed 3 eggs and just finished...

Re: HELP! my bird layed an egg!
She is holding at 3 eggs now since Sunday. I'm thinking it might just be three. Where can you get dummy eggs? Does anybody sell them?

Re: HELP! my bird layed an egg!
Thanks, I will. We have three eggs now. They were laid Monday night, Thursday night, and Sunday morning. I'm wondering if the every third day pattern means anything - is this a clue she is older, or younger, or just a random thing could vary between hens no matter what? The vet said she looked good....

Re: breeding age range?
She now is up to three eggs. She is laying them every third day rather than every other. Monday night, Thursday night, and Sunday morning. Her first two eggs weighed 10 grams, third 9 grams. Her weight after laying is around 145 g, and goes up to around 154/155 g as she gets ready for the next egg. ...

Re: Can 12 yr old IRN be trained to stop biting?
Hi, I am not an expert by any means, but I think it is never too late. I think your attitude towards giving her a home no matter what is great. I have an IRN that is a rescue - she was escaped or let go and I found her outside and was able to catch her. She was scared and nippy and not tame in the b...

breeding age range?
Hi, I'm wondering what are the ages that IRNs can breed? Is their an age that they tend to stop laying eggs? I'm asking because I have a rescued IRN - I don't know any of her background so I have no idea how old she is. She just layed an egg, so now I know she obviously is of breeding age. I'm just ...

Re: HELP! my bird layed an egg!
Thanks y'all. She has only laid the one egg so far. Today would be the day for the second egg, so I'll see in the morning. She did go ahead and try to sit on the first egg which was in her food bowl. She looked very uncomfortable cramming herself in there. I moved it to a bigger bowl that she can si...

Help - single IRN laid an egg in food bowl - what do I do for her?
Hi, I have a blue IRN female - rescued in July. I found her outside - caught her - put up posters, etc. - no luck finding owner. I adopted her. It was slow going taming at first. About mid December we had a breakthrough, and she has been very bonded to me since then. About a month or so ago, she sta...

Re: eye pinning
I am intrigued by the photo. What does the wing spreading combined with the eye pinning mean? My ringneck does this to vacuum cleaner. I think she either is in love with it or wants to kill it - not sure which. She eye pins alot and it usually is not aggressive, but I've only ever seen the spread wi...

Re: Aggressive female Indian Ringneck
I agree. I'm kind of new here and to Ringnecks. I have a rescued female that I've had for 2 months and am still learning. But I have read that some females can be very aggressive to males and that males sometimes are killed :(. I wouldn't risk it if there is any aggression there. I don't know that t...

Odd (maybe?) behaviors
Hi, I have a rescued female ringneck. I've had her about 2 months now. She was very bitey and not hand tame at all at first. We are making good progress. She will now step up on a stick reliably for a pistachio. She clucks to me and puts her head back and makes sweet noises and will let me rub her h...

Re: my IRN is sick ....please do not ignore this thread
How do you know he has fever? What are his symptoms? Is he fluffed, unkempt looking, sitting on the bottom of the cage, eating ok? Do his poops look normal. I know these are some things to look for in a sick bird. Unfortunately birds hide illness as long as they can so if you can tell they are sick,...

Behavior help for rescued IRN
Hi, I posted some of this in the introduction forum too but copied this here (hope that is OK) because it is more to do with behavior and taming. I recently rescued what I think is a mature female IRN who was found flying free (either escaped or let go). I'm trying to learn what I can about her. My ...

Rescued Bird - trying to identify mutation
Hi, I recently found an IRN that escaped or was let go. So I know nothing about her background - I'm guessing it's a mature female, but I suppose it's possible it's a young bird of either sex. She is some sort of blue mutation. She is a blue with a lot of green in it - turquoise maybe? Her irises ap...

Hello - rescued Ringneck
Hi, About a week and half ago I rescued an escaped (I presume) Indian Ringneck. She was in a tree beside the beach house we were staying in and we were able to lure her into a box with bird seed. She was very hungry. I put up signs, called vets in the area, notified the police and the animal shelter...
