Re: Best tips on getting baby Ringneck to talk?
Hey Christibob As far as I know my little guy is 6 months now and molting for the first time. He is DNA sexed male. He is doing the same thing your ringneck is. In the late morning and about 2-3 pm he goes through squeeky chat sessions with himself if he is alone on his play stand or in the cage. It...

Re: starting to worry..
They all have a mind of their own. However popular the belief of letting your ringneck run and hide without disruption, I've found that only reinforces their fears. Bluffing does exist, even with my hand raised baby. After going through it, I am a firm believer in this stage. But to gradually tormen...

Re: New law prohibits hand-rearing of parrots in The Netherlands
So, if a captive parrot decides to starve or kill an offspring, you are happy to let it die? Good gawd.

Re: please tell me what should i do???
Babies are quiet. It is normal. And they can be afraid. Be patient, talk softly to him often. And give him time to grow a few more months. Dont be sad. In time he will love you.

Re: Urgent advise needed!
I agree with Valcoff on the calcium. However birds also do well with a protein boost during molting and I would assume it would be the same for growing back an injured beak. Liquid avian calcium is available. This is a mandatory staple in my bird room (I hobby breed finches too) and it is clear, tas...

Re: Chews feathers on lower leg
I am new as well, and the forum is perfect, but seems a ghosttown. Damn shame, seeing all the great information here. I do however breed finches for a hobby and gouldian finches have very distinct personalities. They are very small birds with very small/quick social ques and I have to watch carefull...

Re: Baby biting
I love this!, it's good to know I'm not the only softy, soothing sounds and gentle warning work beautifully, although we haven't got to the intimate stage you have, my bird wasn't hand reared. Incidentally, we once owned a gorgeous German imported German Shepherd called "Babsi" (Babsi Von...

Re: Question On Bluffing
Note to the innocent: Do Not google gentle dominance! No doubt the targeted advertising is going to haunt me for a while. Imran I'm going to continue to follow proven scientific principles in training my birds. Thank you for sharing your studies of ethology, it is great to know that most adult ring...

Re: Baby biting
When I chose my handraised baby he was still in the weaning stage. I was at the petstore everyday for two hours everynight to allow him to get to know me. He was flighty, biting and fearful. I would cradle him in my chest, taking him back to the "nest-fledgling" stage of feeling protected ...

Re: New law prohibits hand-rearing of parrots in The Netherl
The new law, as outlined here, seems quite welcome to me. Perhaps the Netherlands could give the USA a call........ That was bigoted and rude. I am raised in the USA for 6 generations in a meting pot taught to not judge other countries whilst uplifting the traditions of my peoples homeland. As a ne...

Re: Male chasing female problem
Food guarding by the male can lead to starvation of his mate. If the juvenile is weaned, then remove the kid. If he isnt weaned and drinking water, then remove the female as long as the father is still feeding him. If the father is keeping both the offspring and the mother fromthe food and water, th...

Re: Chews feathers on lower leg
Im new to hookbills, but seeing noone is here most of the time and I breed finches, I'd say its safe to assume he's in breeding mode and he digs you. So if he wants you as a mate and wants to please you, I would try refocusing his attention on some tricks. Like bird fetch, or bird bowling, or tasks ...

Re: Best tips on getting baby Ringneck to talk?
Im new as well, and seeing noone answered you and our birds are about the same age, lets talk about our birds together. Im in the middle of a chat session with my new ringneck and finding him very attentive in the evening to goofy chatter and face time. How's your baby doing with talking?

Wondering how active the forum is . Hello to all.
I have my first hookbill , a lovely DNA sexed male ringneck. 5 months old . Im looking for an active group to discuss, share and embrace this amazing experience with. Im a rather intutive bird owner, who is a successful finch breeding hobbyist and being super excited about sharing ideas, techniques,...
