Re: Advice Needed!

Hi there. There is no real answer to your question; some IRNs effortlessly get along with other birds, some simply tolerate other birds' existence, and others will absolutely detest others. The IRN's temperament may be a good indicator; for example, a sweet and socialized IRN may more readily fit in...

Re: some of my birds feathers on his face are off! help!!

Hi Lunax, I'm sorry you're having a bad start to being a new IRN mom. I hope the vet was able to provide some insight into your fid's condition. How is your baby now?

Re: New IRN mom

It may take a while for your fid to adjust to its (I'm going to say "he" for the sake of my convenience) new home and parents, but he'll eventually get there. I suggest starting things slow - sit close to his cage and read out loud softly with the cage door open, but don't force or coax hi...

Re: Hormones starting in 9 month old?

There's something about red that drives birds bonkers; my phone case is red and it really entices my fid. He is also fixated on the metal doorknob on the side of his cage; he can spend hours making googly eyes at that thing. So random. If I leave the room, he screams and the moment I come back, he i...

Re: Hormones starting in 9 month old?

AJPeter, those sound like terrible hormonal attacks, I'm glad that it seems to be getting better! Ah yes, my fid is very challenging and confusing. I asked his breeder if this was normal, and she said that she has seen plenty of young IRNs get hormonal before sexual maturity. I spoke with another bi...

Re: Hormones starting in 9 month old?

I am afraid I cannot help you, but have you thought of changing the diet? Try millet only for a couple of weeks. Make sure he gets 12 to 14 hours totally dark sleep. I use millet sparingly because all of the articles and videos that I've seen indicate that millet is high in fat and is better as an ...

Hormones starting in 9 month old?

Hi everyone, My ringneck (assumed male, not tested) is currently 16 months old and has been exhibiting signs of hormones -- new obsession towards objects, regurgitation, male and female displays (heart-shaped wings, and mimicking sounds with head tilted back), and nippiness -- since December (so thi...

Re: Lutino IRN with reddish tail

Thank you, sanjays mummi, for your response! You make a very good point; I'm sure not all green IRNs have the same tail coloration as each other. I was concerned that the red may be stress bars, but his behaviors and vet tests don't seem to indicate that. :)

Lutino IRN with reddish tail

Hi everyone, I have found this forum to be extremely helpful while raising my IRN, so thank you so much for your advice! Now I have a question that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. I have a 13 month old lutino IRN, and have had him for 9 months (the breeder told me he is a male but I have not...

Re: When will my Latino irn change eye color

I was told that my lutino ringneck was 4-4.5 months old when I got him. Since I got him three weeks ago, his eyes have been changing every day - the red will become transparent and the pupil and blue iris will become more visible. I would estimate that he is about 5 months old now and the red in his...
